I met a weird guy a few weeks ago, who told me that names are "little prayers", and the name we were given is no coincidence. On the contrary, he believed that it bestows us with characteristics according to what it means and its history and symbolism.
His point was that I should only use my real name and not my nick, because I should go with the light, since this is my name, and not the opposite direction.

Mine is Buford. Oddly enough named after an ex boyfriend of my mothers before she met my father.
Google give this as the origins: Surname derived from the French place name and surname Beaufort, meaning "beautiful fortress". It was popular in the late 19th and early 20th century, at least partly in honor of Civil War general John Buford. Tennessee sheriff Buford Pusser was the inspiration for the movie "Walking Tall".

No, nothing like that.
He probably read weird books. He talked about Zeitgeist as well.

Dear Fotini, your real name is infinitely better than your nickname. And you know I mean that. Wear it proudly.

Megan. As a child I was always known as Mimi (my sister couldn't say "Megan" when I was born so she called me Mimi, and since there's a bajillion Megans around it was easier for everyone else), until I decided the name was utterly stupid and threw a fit whenever someone called me Mimi.
It still happens though, although I don't mind as much now. Too old to throw tantrums anyway.

Yeah right. Do you really expect people to believe that, "Dylan?"
