Financial support is awesome.

I don't reccommend grad school without it ('cause loans suck).

Do you know where you're looking at going yet?

Tenet, I agree with what EPS and Geisha said.

You are too damned ornery to give up the ghost, babe.

But if you do, you will always be in our hearts.

Thanks for the words guys, you really make me feel good.

But...

This is one topic that I will never discuss again. I have made my peace with The Creator. I could die today and I'd be ready. All I am saying that when the time comes I want to be doing something that I enjoy. I also do not want to give-up like so many others that I know. I will better myself until I do leave this world, whether that is 20 years from now or tomorrow.

Those questions about 'what is goth', 'am i goth'... what's really neat is, take any of those kinds of questions, and replace the word 'goth' with 'Buddha-nature' (you might have to change a few other minor words for consistency) and you've got another great debate where the upshot result from wise folk is, don't ask stupid questions that have nothing to do with what's really important.

Lists that allow people to checklist-classify themselves are very rarely authentically comforting. If, in reading a list that defines X, you feel comforted knowing that either you are X or are not X (depending on personal taste), you're probably not paying enough attention to significant things.

Yeah, that's fucking stupendious.. Thanks for the clarification.

Bump from the beyond.

And strangly enough I'm about a creative as a doorknob.

Does this mean I have to turn in my "Gothcard" now?

Wow...just read the whole goth with a sledge hammer thing. That is probably the best thing I have ever read about goth. That is how I view it, but I half expected this group to be about teenagers that like black and pissing off there parents, and not about what it really is. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read it.

I have to say I enjoyed the posts at the beginning of the thread even though I am now well beyond list conformity. It is just nice for me to see that others despise the mainstream as much as I do, and even those goth poser types out there who probably lack any gothic tendencies at all.

The one thing that bugs me though is age discrimination. People tell me that Goth is a youthful fad and I tell them that they are vapid slugs. (Okay, no I don't ... I resort to profanity because they don't know what vapid means). I know this is a miniture rant, but I may have missed it being addressed here but the age discrimination thing really chaps my ass.

I know...I guess I just don't look at it that way because I don't look at birthdates. In fact, I find that I tend to gravitate towards the generation preceding mine (which I suppose would be the Hippie generation, since I am in what they call Generation X) or even those that are older for better conversation on the whole. naturally, this is not an exclusive view because I also find more than a few such persons on the web as well. I am just so sick of everyday culture, the rat race, the mundane, netspeak, and cliches...

Aw, hell, let me shut up before I rant.

After looking at some of the posts by 13 year olds I can't honestly blame you. I suppose I'm glad I'm 14 now.

For me "Goth With A sledgehammer" had a fairly good impact on my life. A friend of mine from california sent me a .txt file of it and after reading I wanted to learn a little bit more because it made a lot of sense.

So, due to my curiosity I googled "goth with a sledgehammer" and one of the links on the first page pointed to a somewhat obscure forumn thread, that had to do with whether or not goth's should be christians or something of that nature. After reading for a bit and looking around the site I decided to join, and thus began my interactions with those among the site of gothic.net. The reason I say it had a fairly good impact on my life is because if I hadn't came upon this site I wouldn't know all these beautiful creatures that our species calls females. I wouldn't have had some intellectual conversations with a few people or even had some nice debates about novels or poems. This is a great site for those who are very into literature, just socializing with others around the same knowledge base, or just to debate out politics.

I love it when that happens. It pretty much makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

But only on the inside.

I agree with Saturnine. I've stopped labelling myself as goth as such. Firstly because yeah, the "hardcore kids" would kick my ass so bad for giving them a bad name, and also because wearing the label "goth" always leads to people jumping to conclusions that I'm going to fit their dictionary defenition steriotype of goth. Can't you just simply exist as who you are and not care about fitting in. Sure, being goth is usually meant to be because you don't *want* to fit in, but you're just fitting in with all the other people who are "unique-- just like everyone else." And "Empty Purple Stars", if you really do conform to the bunch of people who state they don't conform to all these steriotypes you posted, how can you say "I've been goth for X amount of years"? What you're saying is that it's not an attribute, but a way of life, and being. And so you can't really pin it down to a date when you "turned goth." And being goth is different things to different people! I'm sure there are people who don't conform to your "Goth With A Sledgehammer" checklist who could be described as goth. And if these "skin-goths" take delight in calling themselves goth, then let them be! It's none of you're fucking business! If they're so insignifigant to you, then why are you big-noting the posers? They're only posing if they're being something they're not.

You know, I've never really labeled myself as gothic. (I'm not a skinhead either. I have happened to have known some Skinhead Against Racial Predjuidice, SHARPs.)

P.S. My Chemical Romance is really listed as a punk band. They fit in with the power pop punk bands like Fall Out Boy.

If My Chemical Romance is punk then I voted for George Bush.
