You're taking it to an extreme. I just mean being able to depend on someone, it doesn't mean that you will always choose to. The possibility is nice though.

Being able to depend on someone lies within the other person, it would mean they're dependable.
However, if you're dependent, it means you have a weakness, and need to be taken care of. That's just what the word means.

Why should I? People won't leave me to my cynicism, what's the difference? I'd be happy to leave people to their happiness, if they were happy to be happy without being stupid about it. Too much assertion has the force of a denial at worst, and sounds empty at best.
