Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

I don't do well with sewing.
But, I took sharpie and wrote song lyrics all over a long sleeved grey shirt. Then put the band names on the back.
Not overly creative, but it's something.

Wow, nice. How long does it take you to make one?

I really couldn't tell you. I get distracted fairly easily, so I never really did it for any more than 10 minutes at a time.

I finished this last year for a Senior project in high school.
I made the pattern myself, as well as the petticoat underneath. (The black over skirt isn't as un-even as it looks.)
I'm not sure what it is..but I don't really care for it. However, it's the first full gown and the most difficult garment I have made so far, so I'm proud at how well it turned out.
(Please ignore the "groovy" curtains...)
The matching fascinator, made from a plastic yogurt tub.

That just consumed a hour and a half of my time. I signed up but this will probably mean I'll be stealing my roommate's laptop more often.
If she gets fed up and leaves me its your fault.

Nothing to get excited about, but I finished the first hat I knitted in the round:
The hat itself is easy, the ears gave me grief, since its a tight knit it was hard to pull stitches and one of them looks like it had a bite taken out of it (if anyone asks it got into a fight with another cat hat), the other one turned out perfect but I don't wanna go all out and add earflaps and pom poms if I'm not going to wear this often. I'm going to make two more, only with ear flaps and one of them will be red and have devil horns (I promised my sister I'd make it for her..for Christmas, haha). I think I'll make the next cat hat out of nice grey yarn, I feel like its too much black.
And I made a headband out of some scrap yarn I'm trying to get rid of:
Sorry about the blurriness, I don't have a steady hand and I didn't realize until I uploaded it. I made it out of itchy stuff that I don't wanna make clothing items out of. I got a ton of the black itchy yarn though, dunno what to do with it all.
Oh, and has anyone heard of Knitted Knockers? Its a charity in which knitters knit prosthetic breasts for breast cancer survivors who don't like or can't afford silicone prosthetics. I'm going to mention it to a few friends of mine who knit to see if they want to start a group, but in any case I know a few breast cancer survivors who I think would like this so I'll call them this week and see if they want me to make them a few to try out. I thought I'd mention it, here's the website with info and also the pattern:

That headband is extremely cute. About the website, wouldn't you have to be like a master knitter to make a lifelike boobie? My grandmother is a survivor and her mom died from breast cancer. She knits, I bet she would be interested. I'll ask her about it.
Congrats on knitting in the round, my envy is everlasting.

Nah it looks easy enough, the tit bit pattern anyway. Its not going to feel just like a boobie, but apparently its a pretty fair prosthetic and comfortable, don't forget you do put a weight in it like a stone so its not going all over the place. I'm going to try it with cotton yarn and see how it goes.
Oh and you'd probably like knitting in round since you don't have to purl much, its hella easy on circular needles, switching to double pointed needles was a pain because stitches slipped off easily but from watching my roommate knit mittens if you start with dpns they stay put.

For my Visual Communication and Design class I've decided to base my folio around making band merchandise and the like. So soon I'm going to be making some more tshirts and such things, but now I'll be able to work with Screen Printing :P!

A few new things I've made. =)
This is actually purple, not that horrible blue color.
First attempt at a waist cincher. It's just a sample, hence the messy stitches and loose threads. The choker isn't finished, I'll post it when it's done though because it's going to be pretty amazing in my opinion, ahaha.
This already got sold. =D
That's all I better post for now before I get carried away..
