I don't actually understand why NBC is so popular. It's a good movie, but i don't think that it's the best movie Tim Burton has made. I really love Beetlejuice, it really made me laugh.

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory was nothing like the original. Although I did like the original Oompa-loompas & Willy Wonka, Depp & the new O.L's were equally as good in a different way. I really did enjoy that film. I sat like an excited child for the whole duration & went a bit crazy for the squirrels in it.

Also the chocolate that came out during it's cinema release was pretty tasty.

I really wish they still did it ._.

Did any of you actually read the book Roald Dahl wrote?

Frankly, new one felt more like the book. The original one just disappointed me, since I saw it after I read the book. It felt flat to me. This new one however, was just how I imagined the world Dahl tried to create.

As for Tim Burton.....he and Danny Elfman are pretty kick-ass movie makers, though I always get bored in the middle of Nightmare Before Christmas. The middle just doesn't do much for me.

I've read the book & I agree with you. Apparently Dahl was never happy with the original film anyway.

By the way, has anyone seen the pictures of Depp in costume for Sweeny Todd?

Same. The first time I watched it I had to stop the movie halfway through because I felt so bad for Edward. It took me a few more tries before I could actually watch it from start to finish, but I love the movie. I love Tim Burton's work; it's so vivid. I don't get it, there's something wrong with that burton guy. The first movie I saw by him was Corpse Bride, and from then on, I knew I found a movie star worth loving. That movie was plain "good" (in a good way haha) . next I got Edward Scissorhands, and after the ending credits I'm paralyzed on the floor, saying, holy fuck, how the hell did a human make this? Now I'm off to get Big Fish. Any better ideas for a friday night (or morning lol) movie?

As for Johnny Depp, wow not gonna say anything skeptical about him after scissorhands. Damn he's a pirate, a half human robot, a malnurished cartoony character (Corpse Bride), Willy Wonka, and a Play-writer. For some unknown reason I've seen a good chunk of the movies he's played in since scissorhands.

Sweeney Todd? Tim Burton + Johnny Depp (or + Edward Scissorhands, damn that's ain't johnny, that be Edward with human hands) = Magic.

Hat's off.

Another question: has anyone checked out his book 'The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy'? I absolutely love it. The artwork is fantastic & the poems are adorable.

For my art coursework, I'm looking at Burton & my friends mum (who used to be a goth when she was younger

) & I actually cannot wait to get started on it because of the prospect of doing something so crazy & Burton-esque is so appealing. I want to do a Charlie & The Choclate Factory inspired mobile or a maquette of a Sally-like girl based on Kate Bush's Red Shoes video.

It's the only reason I'm looking forward to going back to school after summer.

I actually saw Tim Burton's the Nightmare Before Christmas with my girlfriend about a week ago. I really liked the movie, and I guess I'm going to have to watch it again.

The graphics are what amaze me though. They are really well done.

That's the thing with Tim Burton's work. Even if you're not really into the movie, you're still dazzled by the visual part of it, even if it's animated or real-life.

Yeah, I fully agree. I mess around with Wax and Blender, so I have a bit of a clue about how animation works. (Not much, but a bit). It really shows how painstaking the work is.

And it was dead on too. I saw it on a really shitty 640*800 monitor, and it still looked good.

I can only speak about Tim Burton in general. He's definitely like no one else out there. There's something about his movies, be it THE CORPSE BRIDE, or EDWARD SCISSORHANDS that never ceases to amaze me. It's funny that I stumbled upon a thread about him; in French class, we were asked to write an essay describing one celebrity. I chose Tim Burton; my description was so prophetic that nobody could guess who I'm referring to. But back to the topic; he never ceases to amaze me, and I look forward to seeing his future movies.

He has an amazing imagination. When I think of him, I think of striped sandworms and the Netherworld, and the spiral hill in Halloween Town. He inspires me to create things of my own that can be equally spectacular.

I've watched Beetlejuice at least ten times the last three weeks, and I haven't tired of it yet. In fact, I fell so much in love with the costumes of the female Deetzes (sp?) that much of what I'm sewing right now looks suspiciously alike to them... And, I mean, Michael Keaton _is_ Beetlejuice. Damn, that's a piece of good acting there.

Yeah Tim Burton is the shit.
My absolute favorites are Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, though Nightmare before Christmas comes pretty damn close. Although I got totally psyched about Corspe Bride, the actual movie was a bit of a let down I must admit...
But all the others totally make up for it! =D

I hate the obsession people have with NBC. I loved that film SO much when I was a youngen. I still do, but I hate that I see 'Jack' everywhere! T-Shirts, Bags, Tattoo's - dah! Just ruined it for me.

I agree! I'm with the crowd of peeps who loved Tim Burton since they were little kids and hadn't the faintest idea what "gothic" was. It's sad to me that Burton's work has become such a big trend among Emo and Gothic subcultures, but really only because I have a hard time thinking of his movies in any context other than that of shiny, rosy childhood memories.

I always found the original to be terribly boring. Not an awful movie, but the remake just seemed more inspired.

Good goth... I can't stand the remake, either. Even Depp looked humilating in that film. Almost like Michael Jackson... *shudder* and it's a shame because 98% of the work he does is usually very well done. That applies to both Depp and Burton. Ugh.

Oh, but imagine him having Forbidden Zone for his debut. That film was a work of art.

Guess it's just the art-style. I mean, definitley not for his recent work; but the two kind of have the similarity. I think I missed something. I may be more fond of Danny Elfmann then I am of Burton...
