Humanitarianism is a farse.... help people who won't help themselves after you give them aid... i.e Africa... looks like the planets billions in aid doesn't do the job...

I say we let them go and let them figure it out......

And before you jump on me about africa... lets not forget that indonesia and that region has done almost zip with the money they were given for the tsunami cleanup and rebuilding... where's the millions for the tsunami warning system that supposed to have been operational a little while ago?

No good deed goes unpunished..

I'm all for being an isolationist and leaving others to their devices.

If I had a picture of the Pope I'd do the same thing with it that Sinead O'Connor did.

I'm not even talking about religion anymore...Jesus was a man. This has been proven - whether or not you think he was divine is another subject altogether. But Jesus, Yeshua, let's call him Josh....was a man who taught certain basic lessons of "love". He was a philosopher and a good one. When he died, some people got a little whacky and decided to start a cult following and voila, we have today one of the most prominent religions world wide. I say we take "God" out of Josh and get back to the point...love.

I really don't think I'll find the holy land down there, but I do think that , like Sensuousomar said, Jesus was just a man. A very enlightened man for his time (but aren't most men of greatness so..).

I don't believe it was until Catholicism "got ahold" of him that he because in any way, shape or form diefied.

As a type of Buddhist- I just can't find the logic in deifying a person. But I guess that's the part of what MAKES it a religion.

Jesus is still the way though! He was in all likelihood a great guy trying to get people to love each other and live together in peace. Then shit happened. Err, I mean christianity happened.

I'd like to offer my two cents.

I'll try not to refer to that one particular website that states 'Jesus was a goth' despite how much that concept amuses me to end.

I've been schooled under the Catholic church for 12 years. It was only last June when I finally exited that world of uniforms, men of the faith and conservative hair. By default, I am Catholic. I was baptized, received the Eucharist and raised under this church. I have that sense of guilt. But I'm the type that thinks confessing your sins, in a box, behind a screen, to an old man you barely know is a ridiculous idea.

What bothers me about Christianity in general is their use of scare tactics to convert 'wretched sinners'. I'm aware this method is not always used but from what I've encountered, it's an effective way to heard such sheep.

How are we to pursue life then? Are we to cower in every waking moment that this God will strike us down if we commit the smallest sin? Can you live life to it's fullest under such foreboding as you spend your days judging yourself and judging others?

I sometimes wonder... when these kind of believers are lying on their deathbeds... do they ever regret that they didn't stop to appreciate their days because they were too preoccupied with the fate of their souls? Sure they may be rewarded in a kind of heaven but I don't think it's worth it. You would have taken everything for granted and when the darkness comes and there's no light beyond that realm, you've pretty much wasted your [possible] one chance on this earth.

Not to mention the conflicting beliefs this religion has. What one branch may say, another will disagree. What one church takes from the Bible, the next church will translate it as their own just so they can feel superior than the rest of humanity. One is always out to prove the other wrong. It's a cycle that many of us doubt will ever cease.

Then there's the subject of ignorance. Christians were taught to accept every one but God forbid they're different! They commit acts of intolerance in 'the name of the Lord!' The only thing this faith has proved in the decades is what blabbering buffoons they really are.

I noted I am Catholic by default but I stopped practicing the faith by the time I turned 14. I was tired from the conflicting views I was given and the way I was terrified of the world in my childhood. Other than the required Masses my school held, I no longer went. I still believe in a God, some sort of spiritual being but how I practice my faith is a personable subject.

I hate the idea of someone imposing their beliefs on to you, preaching as to why you should become one of them. I still respect the Church and Christians from a distance but most of the time I end up rolling my eyes to what little they've accomplished.

The "scare tactics" are not needed in my humble opinion; sheeple are also looking for answers about death and purpose etc. So they gravitate to someone advertising the answers...for a fee (tithing).

This is why Born-Again Christianity makes more sense to me: once you are born again, you are "saved", and yet, it is acknowledged that we will sin again, because we are human, not perfect. But this will not cast us out of the Book of Life. Once we accept Jesus, we are saved, period.

Uh...I don't recall there being anything written in the New Testament that we should go around judging others. And I do not judge myself, I do try to look in the mirror and monitor myself, and self correct when necessary.

With me, I was tired of the meaningless ritual, the congregation kneels, the Priest sys something, the congregation responds, back and forth, back and forth, then the Priest collects the congregation's money, and then some go behind the drapes and molests children.

It should be a discussion, not preaching, but better still: it should be lived as an example.

Oh, and sorry Mrs. Straker, I know this kind of talk goes on and on and on.
I can see how one would tire of it. The same way I tired of politics.

The linkage: http://www.shanmonster.com/jesus/

Problem is... it doesn't load for me anymore. But it was funny while it lasted.

I wasn't referring to scripture by this point. Rather, I was implying goons who follows every single ignorant word that spills from Pat Robertson's pie hole.

From what?

What of those who do not believe in any kind of hell ( general as pposed to personal ) or devil/satan ? Any more than you would believe in the great and terrible spoon monster from Pluto who will tear you apart if you do not believe!! ?

The only person who can possibly know all your " sins " or misdeeds is yourself since you are the one who has committed them. So surely the only person who can forgive you and save you from some personal dark place is yourself ? Can you not still believe in whatever god you like without the need to be " saved " by one ( or the son of one ) ?

I'm just curious is all.

So as long as you accept Jesus, you're saved, even if you go on to commit heinous crimes of aggression, violence or greed? But if you lead a much more virtuous and honest life than a bishop, you'll be damned to Hell just because you saw no reason to do the magic handshake that would get you into the elite afterlife club.

That makes no sense.

No. The idea of going to paradise because you are ACTUALLY a decent human being is absurd.

The bible footnoted:

God is pissed.
Jesus loves you.
You're going to hell for your own free will and ideas.
The End.

Sorry if this is offensive to some, I'm kinda miffed right now.
