"Gay gothic punk straight look?"
Try not to type exactly what you think as you think it. It has a bad way of letting people know how stupid you really are. If you must do so, at least go back and check for grammar, spelling, and content.
Also...
Never. Say. LIKE.
...Unless it actually makes sense in the context, of course.

The site link was directly put there to make a point, if you want to fake and conform to what others think something should be then fallow what it says, however being goth as it is stated on this site about 1,000,000 times is that goth is a mind set. When you allow fashion to control what your wearing your already losing to society. Just be yourself, If your a evil person it will show, if your a good person it will come out, but just enjoy life for the time your here for it.

i have went on that site before..but this time i left a message...they were right about one little detail they mention that "It is very important that you be able to make decisions about your own look. You can not depend on other people to tell you how to dress." so they are stupid because they are trying to make some silly people that don't know that they are fooling about do what they say and all that! You should do what you want, dress whatever way you want, listen to what the hell you like and so on and so forth!

Well, I'm a guy, and am wanting a more edgy goth look.
What I have thought about doing:
Wearing black boots or skate shoes
Wearing slightly baggy black pants
Wearing dark blue t-shirt, or a hottopic shirt.
Wearing a black leather jacket overtop of the shirt.
Dying my hair very dark blue.
Wearing some face makeup, but not too overboard.
You are all welcome to suggest different ideas of course.

I think that you should wear stuff that you like. But at the same time you should dress different then every other goth around you. But you could still wear what you like by makeing a few changes. That best suite to your likeing. So you could be different then every one eles.

Personally I dress however I like. Most of the time when I'm not working I'll wear jeans because they're so gosh-darn comfy. If I'm going out somewhere that's with some friends I'll wear my oh-so-pretty velvet and lace waistcoat and a black skirt with a white petticoat underneath. And these black converses with pink trim. Oh gosh, I love converse.
Basically, wear what you feel comfortable in.
Here, go to gothic-charm-school.com because in addition to lessons on ediquette, there are quite a few lessons on dressing appropriate for Gothdom.

Stuff like, cowboy one day, pimp the next - that kind of thing.
And guess what - d'oh! - the clothes made a huge difference. To actions and reactions.
"This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man."

Well anyway, there’s some element of truth in what the program shows, esp. in the way different cultures and people with different educational levels value their own and other peoples appearance, guess it’s like ‘Judging a book by it’s cover.’
Now I’m not saying I’m different, just don’t follow the ‘norms’ of Chinese or Asian culture; you know all the looking approachable, professional and keeping face-value shit! For the whole of 2004, I was living in South-East Asia (Hong Kong, south China) and I had many problems been accepted into society. I don’t know about you guys’n’gals, but I get bored real quick. Apparently my constant change in visual appearance caused a slight stir, local law enforcers would pull you aside and give you the third degree and for what? Because you don’t fit in their ‘ideal’ persona, it’s seems that people there have a form of ‘utopia’ that applies to everyone. If you don’t fit, then you can’t be accepted, no two ways about it.
So for me, if I had too, I would have no problems following the guides set out by the many “Andrew Eldritch’s“ of g.net members, they’re absolutely true in one way or another; it’s their perfect, not necessary yours. Thought I would modify them and make it my own. Nowadays I create my own style, I’ve learnt to think that interpersonal labelling is a creation of other people, how they think. What label they like to donate isn’t my problem, it’s theirs.
Life is very short, blink and it’s gone. Express your feelings, wear and do what every feels great to you. Worry less about how others portray you; they should be looking at your inner person not your extension. As far as many western and modern societies are concerned, the cloths we wear or our outer skin is simply a visual interpretation of our inner feelings, don’t you think?
Just goes to show that there are a lot of narrow-minded people out there, even in our cities, maybe your neighbour even.
Does it make sense?

I'm sure you've heard it many times before, but wear what you want. It wouldn't matter if you wore a flannel shirt and pink polka-dotted pants. That wouldn't change what's inside you. You'd still be goth, my friend. But, it is very evident that, if you want people to "know" that you're goth, you should probably stick to black, red, and other darkish colors. I, myself prefer looking like a walking deathtrap, armed to the teeth with spikes, chains, and atheist slogans. But just wear what ever you feel like wearing.

HEY I WARE PINK AND YELLOW AND I'M A GIRLY GIRL, and I'm not saying
that I feel a goth or what nah, i just follow what i want, what i feel to do today,
I like this it doesnt mean that I have to follow step by step,
but if what you want is SHOW OFF, well that is a different story though.
For too many young adolescents all this is just a fashion trend and that is when
they tend to copy what they dont really feel. Just lets wear all black bc is cool
and it is a way to catch attention.
Sometimes clothes does not reflect what you really like, some people like it
that way and those people are the true follower sometimes...
(please note that I'm not trying to insult anybody, all this is just my opinion)

Not to call ya out but that was about as obvious of a repeat of Neo's answer as there could be, with one exception... Your placing stereo-type with the whole "black, red, darkish color thing." not to mention suggesting a person "wear those colors to basically prove to the public "I am Goth"", is just shy of asinine. Stick with the "do what's comfortable" message doll and cut it there the rest is up to the individual.
I do think you should offer up what you do personally to make yourself feel goth in a fashion sense, that could help a foundling to find his/her own ground just try not to direct in such a matter of fact kind of way.

LOL, you think that's an obvious and over generalized statement, you should check out what Arc said on the "What music do you listen to if you're goth like me?" thread expressing his opinion on what goth is.

The safest method to clean vinyl clothing and accessories is to wipe them clean with a damp cloth and hang them up to dry.
Always hang vinyl away from other garments, especially other vinyl pieces. Vinyl can become sticky if you fold it or store it next to other vinyl items. It may stick to or bleed onto itself or the other item, causing permanent damage.
Oh and we wants PICS!!!

I have black BDU's and shiny combat boots (shined 'em myself). If I where to go Army goth (as I might do) I'd go black BDU's, boots (combat or anything but cowboy), black Marine Corp. cover, fishnet shirt, pretty make-up, and maybe arm warmers and hip slung chains. But that's just me. I like combining metal with cloth. Kind of a hard/soft balance. I also like fabric strips remincant of bandages.

If you actually got BDUs from around a military base, do yourself a favor and don't wear them around the base/post. You'll probably get made fun of. And what the hell are 'black BDUs'? BDU stands for Battle Dress Uniform. The cammoflauge ones are DCU's, Desert Combat Uniform. I have never seen black uniforms, and I'd hesitate to say that they are actually called something else.

Ok, for starters dressing like that AT an Army base would get you shot. I know what BDU stands for as I actually had to wear the real thing doo-doo browns and all. B = battle. I.E. unless you really want to split hairs over it the term refers to any BATTLE uniform. Regardless of color. Or even style. Russian BDU's differ from U.S. ones. But they are BDUs nonetheless. And some units require different colors, and patterns depending on the the enviroment. True enough they may go by an other name but, I'm not here to discuss my knowledge of military and combat badass-ness. I generally find a lot of assholes when I do. Lighten up and remember this is just a fashion point. Not stealth and infiltration 101.

I say if you're going to use military styles, go for the older ones. I've got a British style wool greatcoat from the WW2 era and a Swiss wool waistcoat with brass buttons. You can usually find stuff like that at reasonable prices online, as long as you go European and not American. In my experience the American gear is ghastly expensive and, in my opinion, it doesn't look nearly as cool. Not really "goth", I suppose, but still a nifty alternative type of style.
