Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

Possibly (to the "high-school phase" comment), but I believe that amongst the people whom are/have been jumping on the bandwagon, there is a minority whom are sincere about their interests in the subculture, it's history, and mindset.
It might be just wishful thinking, but oh well.

no, there are some, the elite few Whom will stick with the Gothic scene for much longer than just their school days. But the majority will not.

Surely not the mind though, right? I mean, it's near impossible to lose something that one has possessed for near all of one's lifetime. Just because you have a job doesn't mean you'd have to change a clothing style; nonetheless, I understand what you're getting at. If the job had a strict dresscode, I'd just think of it as a costume. ;-)
A gothic doctor? I'd like that.. at least they'd be more honest and straight-foreward than most people are.

We don't lose the goth scene because of our jobs. Not all goths are teenagers who live with their parents. (THANK GOD!) Have you never heard of Corp Goth?
Shocking as it may seem, I have seen goths at work in places other than Hot Topic. For example, my dog's vet tech is quite obviously a goth under her white lab coat.
One is likely to have to tone down the uber-goth outfits when one joins the work force. Other than that, holding a job does not affect one's gothness.
In fact, having a good corporate job allows me to buy nice gothy clothes (not the cheap HT crap), download scads of music, go to the club whenever I want, pay someone else to color my hair black, attend Convergence, etc.

Maybe in the future you can see me... I'm going to study for that. I just love to be a surgeon and all the things that have to do with operations, blood, surgical stuff ... things like that.

You can be as goth as you want at my school and use what ever fucking clothes you like. There was a goth but he got expelled. I know someone who's goth and she told me about some goth school she heard about but wasn't aloud to go to it.

A school populated entirely by Goths? That seems hardly plausible, although a *mostly* Goth student body is massively more so.
You should refer to Goths as such, not as people who "are Goth." Goth isn't an adjective. Using it as one makes you seem a bit like a mallgoth or poser. That's not an accusation, just a comment. Don't take it the wrong way.

I saw corp Goth polo shirts somewhere... they were black and red and said "Corporate Goth" on the breast. I believe they were at www.subculturearray.com or www.spookyboutique.com .
I dress much like a corporate Goth, though I don't have a job.

But, isn't goth an adjective as well? Does it not describe a different way of living, dressing and thinking? (more so living and thinking)
