I am suddenly overcome with an overwhelming urge to sleep.
Perhaps it is because I shall go fencing tonight, and the thought of high-energy bouts and running around after not having done any exercise whatsoever for nearly a month has something to do with it?

Fencing? Is it fun? I've been meaning to pick it up but I want playful swordfights like in the movies, not the 1-minute-poke-and-it's-over style that it seems to be dominant today.

Fencing sounds cool. I however would love to try my hand at Kendo.
By the way, Nevan, where do you go for your fencing?

I shall ask Boyfriend when he gets home- he used to to do fencing at university, and still has his beloved rapier sitting beside the door. He certainly seemed to enjoy it, though I suspect that's as much because he loves the illusion of nobility as much as the sport itself.

Fencing has changed my life. There's far more benefit to it than just the exercise - mentally-speaking.
The physical side is a lot of fun - It's like 'chess on steroids' if you will. What I enjoy most about it is the fact that you have three minutes in which to score five hits - and it's incredibly fast - all that matters is the 'here and now' - no other problems, in those three minutes nothing else exists other than you and your sword. Freaky stuff.
By the way, if you don't like the one-minute thing, you could try foil fencing - it's slower because of all the rules in place and requires a lot more strategy and tact. I do epee fencing - which is more aggressive and ruthless - I'm a ruthless type of girl you see .

Tuks sport centre in Hatfield - the LC de Villiers building - that big round one? You must know it...

Yup, I know the place.
Perhaps I'll look into it, because I definitely need some form of 'new thing' to keep myself occupied, and anything to do with swords has my attention!

Chess on steroids? Sounds utterly neat. Methinks I'm going to check it out again (was a couple of years since last time I went looking for sports that included more than just physical strength).

I wouldn't expect less from a girl that plays Tie-Fighter.

I know there's a place somewhere in Hatfield where you can do broadsword fighting as well - I don't have any information on it though.
Now THAT would be cool.

I'll let you know if I learn anything about it.

Archery! Aw, damn, I haven't been shooting in ages. There's no local range, and I never got around to buying my own bow because the club I went to back in NI loaned out to members.

I would really appreciate that, Nevan.
Scottish claymore, eh? Those things are huge!
I have a rather old and cheap short sword at home, but yeah...

Hmm.
I have reason to believe that a member of this board may have unconsciously modelled their personality on that of Lord Illingworth in Oscar Wilde's "A Woman of No Importance".

It would not suit the character of a lady to name such names. Though lady I scarely am, I do pride myself on what remaining traits I may possess
*whispergossipwhisper* Though interestingly, you rogue and ungentlemanly gentleman, you do bear some resemblance to Lord Illingworth yourself...

*grins* Although I behave within reasonable constraints as to not hurt any females feelings intentionally. You got me curious nonetheless.
Oh no.. the sudden urge to get everything with Oscar Wilde looms dangerously in the air.

Haha.... yes, mention The Name and you often invoke The Works as well.

I wonder if I should find food? It's almost 7pm, and all I've had is Morrison's Value Own Brand crisps.
