Umm hey nightfang. I think u should just be yourself and listen to what you want to listen to and what clothes u want to wear. Im 15 and if I had to labelymyself I think it would be a goth. Im into hevy metal and punk music and I wear black cos it expresses my emotions, and when I go to a punk/goth club I wear band t-shirts and black trousers. The most popular gothic shoes in the uk id say are big black boots (though al the chavs call them space boots). Oh yea and I think your into goth music but remember just because you listen to heavy metal musik doesnt make you a goth, and it doesnt just happen overnight, it develops over time. Heh last night I ran to the store to pick up some Tylonol PMs and I walked by some Hello Kitty stuff, and since she collects that I grabbed some, and an energybar for myself for the morning. As I was walking up to the counter I thought "I SO look like a molester!" so I grabbed a "Happy Birthday Niece card, even though mine won't have her next bday for many months yet... >_< Sometimes I feel like Hank Hill

yes yes two cents from the new idiot. Thats what happens when you see a popular topic with such a title, you read it and maybe want to respond.
The first page of comments, though well intended, seemed harsh. Maybe I am just tired of other people determing what is and what is not just becuase they have the greater experience but still pay their dues to the current stereotypes, real or institutes by all the other lovely out-groups. To me it lookes like everyone has a silimar idea of what makes you 'goth' but I think it is differnt for each person... you may really just be goth or not be goth, but you start some where right? Very few people actually pop out as a lil goth baby, black eye liner and all... usually a social decision, kinda like this. Some kids just decide they like this genre of stuff earlier in life... and for the record I think it is so uber funny that his choice of Green DAy and other music was bashed but the ever popular Manson wasn't, as if he isn't the biggest pop star ever ^^.
I honestly think the only advice that can be given and stomached is to jsut figure out what you think goth is and try it out. Who cares if you start at hot topic, you know that half the people in high school shop there anyway, especially if they are goth and have even $20 to spend. YOu can't learn 20 years of goth history and then claim to be goth over night anyway... If this 'culture' is for you then maybe you will look deeper into it of your own accord, if not, then oh well.
