Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

No, absolutely! What means brass? Isn't it an instrument? Or some kind of metallic material?

3lackrose,
The phrase `Brass` is what people use to describe instruments such as Trumpets, Saxaphones, Tubas, Cornets, French horns etc !!!.

He was just surprised at the question because among musicians brass is a pretty common term in their vernacular.

I`ve found this brilliant website for finding various scales and arpeggios in all keys and positions for the guitar (a bit like having the `Guitar Grimoire` books on the internet), and thought it might be a useful source of reference for anyone wanting to take their playing further !!!.
Click here and see what you think !!!.

That is pretty cool. It'll be interesting to find out what the chords I play are called. I never know the technical terms for what I play.

Bete,
I found that website useful before I got the `Guitar Grimoire` series of books, the best thing is that you can print off anything you find useful and learn it at your leiesure later (I have three ring binders full of various tabs and lessons and scales etc I`ve printed off the net which I use my daily 2 hours of pratice) !!!.
Hows that blues idea you told me about coming along ?
Pm or e-mail me if you need help with anything !!!.

It's going pretty well. It's sound a bit like the Nephs crossed with Nick Cave, but not too derivative of either. Not sure what the vocals will be like yet, I'm still working on lyrics and stuff.

Yuummm... this seems suited for me I think I'll take a look, it would be very useful cause I'm not having guitar lessons anymore and I'm learning using ear and self experience...

Sounds really cool, perhaps the theme of the lyrics might give you a good indication on how your vocals could sound, the best thing to do is experiment with all the vocal styles you like and see which fits each piece of music best !!!.
Came up with a really cool bass line last night (really its an extension of an existing riff I`ve been working on and just basically added a harmony and octave jump to it to give it dimension !!!.

Sounds good. I've been playing quite a lot of bass recently, and got a lot better at writing basslines.
I'm really enjoying being able to record basslines, it means I can do more choppy guitar parts without the piece sounding too fragmented.

I love playing on my seven string guitar (Ibanez RG1527) and was wondering if anyone else plays seven string guitar (or 8 string) ?

I have a friend with a twelve string guitar, which I adore playing. The sound is BEAUTIFUL.

I made my own stuff up on bass, and guitar. I can play bits of Lamb of God and Cradle of Filth. I don't have my own instrument, seeing as my parents decided the music was against the law. I do go around to my friends house and practice there though.

There's a time in every musicians life where he needs to just stop being stubborn, and quit. Today... is not my time, hell no! I think I'm going to ask around see if anyone can give me a few lessons, it'd be a lot better than going the "self-taught" route.

I play a 7 String Jackson Kelly but I don't like very much how it reacts and sounds, but I'm forced to use it cause our songs contains lower tunes than "E" on the guitar parts and I will not change the tuning (Standard B E A D G B E) Anyway, I prefer my 6 String Maverick it is easier to play and sounds cleaner and accurate.

I want to get a red Gibson Les paul with artwork of an animated caricture of me on the body, sitting on a bench strumming a similar guitar with similar artwork on the body of the guitar.

I REALLY want a nice seven or eight string guitar, I hate all the down tuning then retuning up so much when my band feels like playing our songs out of order...

I currently play an Ibanez SA Series guitar with either a Vox AC30 or "Metal" Amplug running through my computer lol. I also have other guitars but since I hurt my fretting hand the Ibanez is the only one I can play without too much discomfort. Stylewise I play everything from folk/roots through to rock & metal.
