Hi I'm MikotheDevil
Hi, my birthname is Michael Angelo, but my preferred name is Miko the Devil. I am a young bat from California, for several years I have been trying to join the Goth scene. I have been obsessed with Goth subculture ever since the third grade, I wrote an essay about Goth subculture in high school, and I first experimenting with my clothes when I was halfway through college.
I always felt like I was very different growing up. I was born in the Philippines, and my family moved immediately a year later. My mom always told my little brother and I scary stories from folklore, so I think that's part of the reason I have always had an obsession with the macabre, morbid and weird. There was a point where I was obsessed with ghosts, then mummies, and I have always liked watching the popular horror films like Chucky or Nightmare on Elm's Street. I recently got interested looking into the Lost Boys, Interview with the Vampire, The Crow, the Craft, and This Must Be the Place.
I never got along with anyone at my school. I just couldn't relate with the people around me, and the adults told me there was something wrong with me because I didn't want to conform so easily. I usually followed my heart, but I got gaslighted many times by people who wanted me to look and act a certain way. I wanted to try Goth clothing since middle school, (I wasn't into the Emo thing) but my parents wanted me to be "presentable" and always make sure that "Americans" wouldn't look down on me because I was different (as if that really helped with the bullying I experienced).
Growing up I mostly listened to Punk, Rock, Grunge, and Indie, but I never really discovered true Goth music until I was in college. My favorite Goth bands are Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees, Christian Death, Sisters of Mercy, and Xmal Deutschland. Other than them, I also listen to Smashing Pumpkins, Offspring, Linkin Park, AAR, Placebo, Slowdive, the Ramones, some of the Clash.
I have always been a creative and smart guy. I like to draw digital art (not necessarily Goth stuff, just anything that has an alternative edge to it). Write stories that I can pitch a movie, tv show, book or comic, I have always wanted to be a showrunner for a cartoon, since I always watched CN, Nick and the Disney Channel. Right now I'm working on a superhero story at the moment. In college, when I got a job for the first time, I started buying clothes that I could DIY. I went to thrift stores and learned how to use a sewing machine. I also liked customizing toys and repainting them. Lastly, I also started getting back into my martial arts training. I am an orange belt in Kajukenbo. I received a bit of racism this year during the pandemic, and it taught me that I need to retrain myself to be prepared for a fight. I do not want to end up on the news.
I have not been able to experiment with my makeup. I spend so much of my money on clothes, I forget to finish my look.
I saw a nice lady who is a Goth mom, who told me how she used to go to the clubs in Los Angeles when she was younger for Industrial and Goth music in the 80's and 90's, at a Theater Company in Upland. I feel like I am going to go try visiting some of the Goth clubs this weekend. Wish me luck.
