The lesson that can be learned is an odd one to me. I see the settlers as being put in a place they had no good reason to be and the compromise was strange.
But then it leaves me also wondering if there was a way to share ideas that could have enriched both sides. But I feel... not at ease with the conclusion. It looks too much like assimilation with a slight dash of ethnocide.
