Salo, 120 days of Sodom
Has anybody here seen it? Did it live up to the ban?

Sorry, I like it too many things about it to list or explain. It's God.

All I know about it is that the "dogshit" was actually a mixture of chocolate and crushed biscuits. Kind of takes the " oh god no!!! " factor away . I've seen bits of it but not the whole thing.

Aw, that's disappointing. In Faces of Death the monkey's brain is a bit of cauliflower and red gelatin. Neat.
Ophelia, it's about the Duke and other governmental figures who kidnap a bunch of teenagers and force them to perform unfavorable sexual deeds, mostly involving scat and the likes. There are also women [prositutes?] who tell stories about their own scattacious sexual experiences to please the men. It's really fucked.

You should read the book. There are points where it's totally arduous and nauseating, but you wouldn't regret it after.

The book is very good, but it's a loooong read, and all the most interesting ideas are well-expressed in the film. For me, this is a rare case of film pwning book.
Underwater Ophelia, it does what a lot of the Marquis de Sade's books do, which is to make sexual sadism into a metaphor for the helplessness of the lower classes in the face of the desire of the socially powerful. Although, social conscience aside, that's not to say that he doesn't get an entirely un-cerebral kick out of the situations he writes about.
There's a funny story about Sade getting his arse kicked in court by a (probably) prostitute, after giving her more than she bargained for. Ironic.

Yeah, I read about it online.
I'm thinking I'll pick it up from my local library and give it a read.
