Anyway; to avoid this being spam, I hate AFI.

I hate their music, I hate their blatant commercialism, I hate that AFI and Slipknot fans walk around in eyeliner with dog chokers around their necks calling themselves "goffick" and being ultra defensive when someone questions it.

I particularly hate that they are called Goth Rock, and sometimes even Metal. Is it any wonder that music genres get stereotyped when such crap is piled into that genre, when it doesn't even belong to it?

And by the way, Despair Faction? Why don't they just call themselves Heaven For Razorblades To Your Wrists and be done with it?
Hmmmm... Someone needs to calm down.

I second all of honeythorn's replies.

(And also... the name 'Despair Faction' is never to be taken seriously. Just thought I'd clarify that for the million billionth time.)

I'm perfectly calm. Sorry if you interpreted it as an attack, it was just my opinion, which is a derogatory one.

I didn't interpret it as an attack. Just remember that 'hate' is a very strong word, and writing three paragraphs on what one 'hates' can be interpreted as getting a teensy bit riled up.

As I've said earlier: music is entertainment. It doesn't affect whether you live or die, and such extreme 'hateful' opinions on such matters often come off as rather... well... silly.

I've never really said hate and actually meant it, because hate is an absolute, I suppose I was just exaggerating my serious dislike.

Not to mention it was penned by a fan since Davey and the gang were far too unoriginal to come up with their own club name...

Not really A.F.I. related but... anyone else think Tiger Army is traveling down the same road? I've been hearing their new single on local radio non-stop lately and I don't know whether I should be pleased or a little scared.

I really like it. Davey's voice suits that kind of music surprisingly well... It's interesting, if not a little surprising, haha. A huge contrast to Black Sails, that's for sure. Not a bad contrast though.

No, I think AFI is a piece of junk. Along with Korn, Slipknot, HIM, System of a Down, and every other Hard Rock band that teens think is Metal.

I have yet to come across anyone who considers AFI metal.

I meant the other bands I mentioned, not AFI.

I'm so sick of people whinging about their popularity and move into the mainstream. If you don't like their new sound just say it: you don't like their new sound, because there should be no more to it than that. People so often forget the entire purpose of music - it's entertainment, not politics. Save your knicker-knotting for more important matters.

(And there are far too many threads like this.)
You are so right it's disgusting. AFI has strayed away from their old sound, but that's called time. I'd be bored with AFI if they still sounded like they did in the nineties. This is my favorite band and I hate it when people dis them because more people have grabbed a hold on their music. They made different music because they made different music. I'm quite sure they hear and see all of the slander going towards their new work and they don't care. If they did they'd succumb and grab their old broken noise and run it through the machine again. They're newer sound sounds like old school goth, what with the drum machines and the eerie sounds and all. Their old music kind of blows. It's become a public thing now to say "their old stuff" is better. I see this way too much. They say it for the hell of it because they think their staying true to something that doesn't exist. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. If you do, whoop dee fucking do. Decemberunderground has an entire new sound to it, it's different but it's delish. Sing the Sorrow is the biggest work of art I've seen from that band. As the time goes backwards their musical value decreases. They know what they're doing now. If there is anything you liked about A.F.I. during Black Sails then you'd love Sing the Sorrow. Their old stuff is a bunch of noise and yelling. Their new stuff is a perfect mixture of hard guitar lines, beautiful rythms, thundering drums, and that beautiful poetry that got me into them in the first place. Cicero, I am beside your words 100 percent of the way. I love A.F.I.

I'm personally a big fan. I think the lyrics are absolutely horrible with how lame they are, but I like that. I think the music, old and new is amazing period.

I also think most people hate AFI by principal, and dont hate any band as much as they may claim to. It's only music. Don't listen to it.

They almost remind me a little bit of Sex Pistols. They started out fairly hard core about what they did, then got softer as the got older, and changed their style, just like Public Image did. I'm sure punkers hated Public Image, however, it can't be denied that they did amazing things.

Yes. Isn't it sad how they hate a band because of principal and not music?

I first heard of AFI in 2004. I personally think the older stuff is better, but I don't completely hate the new sound. It's listenable, but not lovable like the old stuff. My favorite album is Black Sails In The Sunset, which I guess you would call their 'in between' album. I love AFI because they have such a varied sound that I can listen to the no matter how I feel. If I'm in a depressed, emo mood, I can break out DecemberUnderground, or if I want to say fuck the government I can pop in Answer that And Stay Fashionable.

I love AFI, I like their newer stuff and I really don't care if a load of snotty people tell me they're not goth (yes, I know they're not) I also like their old stuff too, but it gets a little boring after a while of listening to lots of it because it is all fairly similar.

And, I think Blaqk Audio sound P.D.G. so far.

I found the music video for silver and cold hilarious. It's a beautiful song, but it has NOTHING to do with suicide.

I've only heard AFIs newer work, and its listenable, I'd rather hear other things but it doesn't make me want to perforate my eardrums to prevent them being violated.

I should probably give their earlier stuff a listen, I generally quite like that style of music.

I'm going to post this here rather than make a whole thread about it.

I know a lot of you guys here don't like AFI, but I was wondering what you thought of their ( Davey and Jades ) side project Blaqk Audio?. This sounds to me, like something along the lines of futurepop , I personally am reminded a little bit of Apoptygma Beserk.. Here's the Myspace if you are curious

It sort of has that AFI video thing (of course) going on. Reminds me of that one tape thing from "The Ring." You know? And the song is a totally different song. I thought it would be one of the two songs they have up there.
