Solutions???

I have this great wig, dark brown and waist-length. I want to add some colored extentions to it. It's a human hair/synthetic blend, so I can't use my bonding system.

So anyone got a link to good box-braiding(or any other good braiding technique) tutorials?

eyes, you could try keeping the pink part dry while you wash the black part.

What do you consider low maintenance? And how long is your hair?

My hair is thick, somewhat wavy, and prone to frizz. It's also extremely long. You might consider it high maintenance because it takes 15 minutes to flat iron it. However, I think it's low maintenance because I don't have to wash it and blow it dry every morning.

It was already mentioned, but I'll add my vote for a ceramic straightening iron. They're fantastic. I will also mention dimethicone-type anti-frizz serums/creams. They make your hair soft and shiny while combatting frizz.

I've always had a question about how you die certain strands or sections of your hair a color, and then the rest black. When I was younger I tried to die my hair all black, and then little parts blue, but it didn't work. So that is my question.

um, it may fry your hair a bit but you could try dying the whole thing black then bleaching the parts you want colored and then dying the bleached streaks blue

What my stylist did was -

1. She took the parts of my hair that I wanted as highlights and put foil under it. Then she put the bleach on all the hair, and folded up the foil.

2. She mixed up the dye to dye the rest of my hair to match my original natural color and slathered that on everything that wasn't in foil.

3. Washed everything out. Then she put toner in to get the highlights the right color.

Voila!

You could do the same thing, except after you wash out the black dye/bleach then you can put in the other color you wanted the streaks to be. It seems difficult to do all by yourself so I would have a friend help. Perhaps using colors that aren't too far off from each other, like Black and Blue would help cover up any mistakes.

I did try to bleach them before I died them, and it didn't work...I might have done it wrong though. Would it be possible to put the black die on, wipe it off the sections I wanted died, and then put the blue die on.

Oh, and one more questions. Is the noun, die, spelled 'die' or 'dye'?

My hair's long and brown and... blah. I haven't been to a hairdresser in over a year, I need help! *grin* I used to dye it all the time, but it's out of condition and split-endy now, so what I really need is a few inches lopped off. Then I can go about ruining it again with purple dye and stuff! :-D

I had exactly the same problem a couple of years ago. I tried to dye my hair black with red streaks by applying the red to sections and tin-foiling them, then dying the rest black. The red didn't take at all, and some of the black managed to seep under the tin foil - it looked shite. I ended up getting it re-done professionally, which looked awesome! My advice is to let the experts do it for you, unless you've got the time and inclination to keep practising until you get it right. If you just want to dye it one colour all over though, that's easily done at home (especially with a friend or partner's help) :-)

Haha, thanks. I got the bleach kit with the blue, and I put it on for the amount of time it said on the box (30 minutes, I think). First, I died my hair black, and then I tried putting bleach on the parts I wanted to dye blue...I had them tied up. The bleach didn't take the black dye off, and that's why I'm asking if there are any other ways...or did I bleach my hair wrong?

So the parts you bleached are still black, or did they turn orange? If they turned orange wait a day or two and use conditioner in your hair a few times and try agian. If that doesn't work you can go to a stylist and have your hair stripped but I'm not sure if you can do parts of it or if you'd have to take all the black out, or what it cost, but it does take a really long time.

The most i can say is don't dye the hair you want a different color black.Keep it seperate somehow(be creative...foil, plastic wrap..) because black hairdye is a pain. I chopped off about five inches of my hair just to get the green color that the black left out of my hair. Another thing, the bleach that comes with dye in normally really cheap and makes blotches. So next time you buy bleach, buy it seperatly from the dye and ask the person who works there about it.

If you want streaks, they sell special caps with holes in them that are designed to dye your hair in different colors. I can't really explain it very good and I have no idea what it's called in English but I hope someone understands what I mean and can explain it better.
It looks like a rubber cap some people wear when they go swimming, but it has small holes all over it, where you can pull small locks of hair trough, in order to dye them without getting the color on the rest of your hair.

Damn, my English is terrible. How do they call those things, in heavens name?
