Heh......... I remember Lady Lucretia (or someone with a similar name) getting her ass handed to her when she tried to correct GM's word usage in his intro thread, then rounding it off with "well, I correct college essays for a living so I know what I'm talking about", when it was established that the original wording made perfect sense.

Actually, I believe it was something to the effect of "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was eighteen year olds who know everything." Well, you do now, bitch.
The woman was like four years my senior, but she acted like I was a toddler and she was an antedeluvian.

Oh God. Now they're using the "You're 14, therefore do not have this vocabulary" argument.

So I relayed my recent experiences of debating Noocracy, and they appear to have shut up.

WIN.

Instead of getting frustrated about it, you should just laugh at their stupidity.

I don't understand why so many people are barely literate. Every internet conversation I've ever had, except with you people, the people's writing is almost illegible. Some people I know who seem really smart in real life could not write a complete sentence to save their life. I just don't get it. I think a lot of people dumb themselves down because it is considered "cool" to be a compete blithering idiot, and they want to fit in like the mindless sheep they are. Even I, when talking online to someone I really connect with, find myself making the same sorts of spelling and grammar errors as they. I think I subconsciously try and get on the same wavelength as they by dumbing myself down.

I certainly hope that's not the case. After a while I just learned to shut up and let them destroy themselves through their own ignorance. Now, everyone just thinks I'm mute. Volumes can be written about the nature of illiterate people, but I don't think that's necessary here. Nor am I that much of an obnoxious prick to do something like that.

Aww well, seeing as how this thread topic developed about l33tness I must say.. that some people are plain lazy, not necessarily as brainy as a dumb sheep.

Agreed. But, a lot of the time, when you utilize proper grammar and punctuation, you stand out from everyone else.. I suspect that many people don't want to stand out.

For someone who appears to have not read anything published after the 1200s, you have a tight grasp of text talk.

Dude, personally I don't like anything that ends in A.D., but some of you young rapscallions just have some hee-larious ideas buzzing around in your head. I took a nap back when that napolean feller was kickin' off, woke up when people started drinking drain-o to get high, and since then I've been paying my celestial bills. Anything cool happen since then?

My favorite thing to hear from the idiots at my school is: "Stop using big words, you're hurting my head."

Use words like subjective, ironic, or even fallible and you're considered one of the "smart kids." Not that I care or anything.

If you're going to post in a thread about literacy, at least make an effort you use proper punctuation and capitalization and get your homophones right.

On another note, I love the word "piffle." I should use it more often.
