Firearms

Love them or hate them?

I like them myself I own two handguns as of right now, Smith&Wesson revolvers.
A model 12 service Revolver in .38 special, along with a Smith&Wesson model 34 Kit Gun in .22 Long Rifle.

Planning on picking up 2 Taurus Revolvers in the near future.

Anyone else care to throw their two cents in?

Mostly ambivalent. I've never fired or owned a gun, nor do I have any intention of doing so.

If it was a debate on gun control legislation you were wishing to start, well, it seems reasonable to me for the government to regulate the possession of devices that have the singular purpose of killing people. However, I feel that gun control laws are largely a distraction from the true causes of violent crime, which are mostly socio-economic inequities.

Actually I didn't know if I should post this in General or Political, and Figured that it would end up being a Political debate,so I thought "Why not"

But my intention wasn't to start a gun debate, just to talk about what some folks own or if they had a preferance for one model or make over the other.

I do not own guns. I strongly prefer bows and arrows, knives, swords, axes, spears, you know, weapons that take more skill than one would need to operate a camera.

If forced in the position to pick some firearms, I will.

I recently purchased a pretty sweet sling shot the other day but.....then I realized I don't have any place safe to practice

I won't purchase a firearm, but I have an emergency plan to raid the nearest Wal Mart in case of a zombie apocalypse scenario.

I find the whole zombie thing is an excuse for gun maniacs to try and prove that having 50 guns is a good thing.

I understand, which is why I'll see how my sling shot, machete and record collection works out before I raid the Wal Mart.

...Actually I should revise that plan as it involved the car of my ex, who moved away.

Right now I have two nondescript Mausers.

I'd like to own a Ruger Redhawk Alaskan in .454 Casull, a Sig Sauer P220, a Remington 700, and a nice AK-47 or AK-103.

I own long guns:

Russian SKS with fixed 10 shot magazine and bayonet.
Winchester Defender 1300 in police style 20 gauge.
Winchester .270 hunting rifle (bolt action) with scope.
family heirloom Sears Model 50 .22 pea shooter. My father got it as a 16th birthday present, and he in turn gave it to me when I was a kid.

A lot of fun. I passed the Depart of Justice Handgun Test with 1001% and can legally buy any handgun but I would need to buy a bigger gun safe to hold them all. I keep all my guns unloaded and have trigger locks on them too. The closet to the safe is locked, so there are three sets of locks (not counting my home locks and security alarm and the dogs) that protect my firearms from innocent or not-so-innocent hands.

I still much prefer the bow and arrow. Silent and beautiful. I wish I had a set so I could practice, but I do not have the money nor space needed.

What type of bow are you looking for?

I could post a link to some makers if you'd like.

Something simple. I've currently got too many up and coming expenses to buy a bow though.

Since I don't hunt, I use a Longbow for target shooting. I find a nice wooden bow much more enjoyable since I don't need the technological advantage of a compound.

Here's my bow:

Recurves are nice, but I'm a pretty tall guy (6' 2"), so a longbow seems to fit me better. Some of the smaller recurves look like toys when I'm holding one.

Compounds just give you the edge of using less energy to hold it back. I don't consider it cheating or unsporting. Crossbows are cheating, you might as well use a gun.

Compounds are also more accurate/ easier to be accurate with. Thats why in competitions they don't get x's in certain cases.

But going back to skill, shooting a bow isn't different from shooting a firearm when it comes down to it.

You still have to practice muscle and breath control.

Archery is much, much harder than shooting a gun.
