It has picked up, but it's not hugely active. Although new members generally get a flicker of movement.

I don't know, my account is officially unactive as I haven't posted there in over a year and I haven't felt like trying to go through the effort of getting it reactivated

I have not been around too long so I can't comment on years ago or whatnot but I will say that in the last few months I have seen a vast of increase in spam. I have no problem with topics evolving into more off topic discussions within a thread on occasion, etc. It is quite natural for conversations to mutate and evolve. But that is not what I am talking about. There seems to be an awful lot of talking over and over and over that looks like people just saying anything for attention or tho hear their own head rattle. Joking around is fine not being serious is fine but continually making a mockery of everything and each topic to be found is just tiring and honestly, quite boring.

Granted, I don't know what could even be done about it. When it really comes down to it you can either run a board that is fairly censored or trust people to make of it what they will and let that be a board of those posters. Both ends of that spectrum have issues. A lot of it seems to be an influx of just pure childishness. Most of the younger members do not do so though. Other things seem to be real in disrespect to the board owners as well...like blatant death threats and direct linking of pornography when there are very young people around, etc. The owners can easily get into legal trouble over those things, or have the board deleted over such things, so it's a shame to see some of that happening more often. Overall, for me at least, it seems to deal with lack of respect for fellow posters and the board itself, including the ones that have put the time and effort in to run it. Bad Netiquette, a lot of immaturity, etc. Which unfortunately will happen when things are open to the public.

I do enjoy this board but yes in the last few months, ignore is a good friend here....which is great but still does not cut out the replies to ignored parties. JMO

I am quite pleased to see there are some members with common sense and decency on this forum. And apparently enough of them to make a difference and engage the site admin's sufficiently so as to cast out those who, as you said so succinctly above are "just saying anything for attention or to hear their own head rattle...[and] continually making a mockery of everything and each topic".

Being new is not a crime. What we are talking about here is when someone who has no consideration for others spams almost every thread with egotistical sexual comments.

If I went to cnn.com and spammed every news article blog with "Edgar Allan Poe I LOVE YOU!" I would get blocked. If I did the same thing to npr.org or nra.org same thing. You cannot seriously detract from the main mission of a community without incurring backlash from the majority of that community. Sure, there will be one or maybe even two (as in the case of the late departed avian) who say, on history.net or weather.com will say "Yeah! And I want to have his babies too! Come here Edgar you smexy man you!".

But you being new? You don't have anything to worry about. Yet. Learn from the mistakes of others.

And I am not one to talk. I am guilty of having broken a letter or two of the law here in the Forum Rules. I think I am fortunate to have been tolerated, as some of my sins have been serious. But As I said above, they are not continuous and have occurred when circumstances were, shall we say, contentious. Technically, I could be banned at any time.

Trust me, they wont spork you for it. The issues between the sites are over and I for one have said it more than once. After all I said and did back when everyone was getting banned it would be silly for them to ban me (or anyone else for that matter) simply for saying something about gg. I will not, however, openly post it on the forum as that would lead to gg simply becoming just like gnet only with a different color scheme and a different format

I am well aware that I am probably part of the problem. I just don't understand why things have degraded so much though.

On my other forum, we act like idiots, but we still respect certain lines and act like we actually graduated some English classes. It stays at that perfect level of fun and not annoying.

Duck is fun to be nonsensical with, but then we got the imitations. And now it just seems to be an epidemic, and it's not very funny anymore, even I have to admit. I'm starting to not like coming around anymore, because everything is MEMEME threads that belong in the Rant/Whining Threads, not in threads of their own, or spam to up post counts. News articles aren't even capitalized anymore. Hell, half of them aren't even interesting anymore.

How to fix the problem seems to rest with the admins. I suspect that is what keeps my other board in line, that we have an active admin who is willing to give people the boot. (It's also an 18+ forum, fully enforced)

But the admins here seem to be AWOL. Maybe they need to designate some new ones or something, I don't know. But I'd like to save this board, even if that means changing my own behavior and trying to calm down back to my real personality.

Things look much the same as when they started going to hell in a handbasket back in 2005 ... or was that 2004?

Anyway, can I have my 15 minutes back?!?

It's actually kind of neat how he managed to turn the whole board into being about him.

I don't think a troll has ever successfully made EVERY thread about himself. I liked Duck, but that was annoying. Annoying, but kinda neat.
