Do you value justice or forgiveness more?
Justice and forgiveness are both often viewed as virtues, but they can be incompatible. Would you prefer that the society you are a part of emphasize justice or forgiveness?

You can forgive a person without removing the consequences of their actions so the two are not at odds as long as the justice is simple the consequence of a person's actions and is not retribution.
On another note stop with the starting of threads that really aren't all that open to continuing discussion as they clog up the boards but really don't result in much conversation.

Justice. Forgiveness is good, but all to often it's the fool's poison.

This coming from someone who comes back every few days asking for a clean slate.
Forgiveness is justice.

I never ask for a clean slate, JCC. I merely suggest that you should give me a clean slate, as it would be to your loss otherwise.

I see no difference between the two things you just said.

I don't have to justify myself to you.

Depends on the situation. A pragmatic perspective is paramount: would "justice" worsen the situation? (E.g. WWI reparations demanded from Germany contributed to the outbreak of WWII, just as punishing a people for the actions of its government is wrecking the world today from all sides.) Is there any evidence of remorse and attempts to make amends? If so, will justice, which usually means punishment of the wrongdoer, result in bitterness which will wreck any possibility of redemption? Does anyone stand to benefit from this punishment, or is the application of justice merely a legitimization of vengeful sadism? Is the wrongdoer acting from iisolated impulses, or are they the logical conclusion of the order from which they arise? If the latter, there are more important changes to be made than the punishment of an individual.

False dichotomy.
I have just won this thread.

People who do things without justifying them get justice.
Everyone else gets forgiveness.
Unless your justification is useless.

Justice has more priority. But there's always possibility for forgiveness, though it depends a lot.
