Towel Day: A tribute to Douglas Adams

Quote:
You sass that hoopy Douglas Adams? Now there's a frood who knew where his towel was. You are invited to join your fellow hitch hikers in mourning the loss of the late great one. Join in on towel day to show your appreciation for the humor and insight that Douglas Adams brought to all our lives.
Towel Day Homepage

You can find all the details at the website. I may have authors I like more, but I've already got a black towel of mourning in my closet with the number 42 sewn on at the ready for May 25th out of respect.

I learned about it last year when an acquaintance was wearing a towel around all day. Made me feel silly I didn't know about it before either

Please do!! I'm doing an article about it for a geek news blog, if you G-net peeps do it and take pictures I'd be honored to use them (if you let me of course, and I'd love to snatch an interview if you're terribly daring )

I am setting up an itinerary all around carrying the towel:

First: take shower and towel my self thoroughly, getting dressed of course.

Second: get CLEAN dry towel and go to Starbucks, waiting in line as if nothing is unusual about carrying a towel over my left arm.

Third: Walk dogs with towel, making sure neighbors notice.

Fourth: Go to Barnes and Noble bookstore and peruse Douglas Adams books whilst carrying towel.

Fifth: Go to grocery store with towel.

Sixth: Go to daughter's apartment with towel to visit her and grandson, and wait to see how long before she says something.

What I am struggling with is whether I should take a blue towel to match that of Arthur Dent's or to take one of my more colorful tourist towels form Hawaii or the Virgin Islands. Hmmmm.

Indeed I did, but no one would ask me what it was about!

Methinks it is because my reputation in the local community as...different...is already well known.

SO I EXPLAINED IT TO THEM! MWUHAHAHAHA!

To which they simply smiled and said: "Oh. OK."

In other words it was anticlimactic. I was hoping to cause vocal shouts of "BURN HIM! BUUUUURRRRRN HIM!"

*snicker* They probably thought you joined a cult, and expected you to sing hara krishna or bow toward Mecca or something. So it'd be a big relief that you're just another sci-fi fan. Rule Number One: Don't Panic. LOL.

Cool photos. Thanks for posting them.
