Greetings
Hey, I'm Indego. Here's my newbie intro thingy.
1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I write. I read. I dabble in all things crafty and creative.
2. Where are you from?
I grew up in Minneapolis, MN, but have lived in Los Angeles for about six years now.
3. Who is your favorite author?
It’s a toss-up between Roald Dahl and Ayn Rand. I also love Edward Gorey’s work.
4. What are your favorite films?
I like a lot of films by Hayao Miyazaki, Guillermo del Toro, Tim Burton, and Terry Gilliam.
5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
I’m already married. Let’s just say I was mortified when the DJ played Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings during our reception. Blech!
6. At your funeral?
I don’t really care.
7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
Peacefully. Alone. It would be nice to have a chance to say good bye and I love you to a few people too.
8. What kind of casket would you want?
I just want to be cremated and have my ashes interred in the woods.
9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
Something black that looks good with spike heels.
10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
I miss Saturday morning cartoons with my big brother.
11. What's your favorite band?
Listening to a ton of Bowie and NIN lately.
12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
I will have my BA in Fine Art in 10 weeks.
13. Why did you join?
To meet people who share some of my ideas and tastes…we’ll see.
14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Female.

Indego, welcome. I'm also from Minnesota, and still living here sadly. Still, welcome.

It shows you do read, but damn, I'm going to look at you weird.

Why is that? Just wondering, don't mean to sound as if I'm pro Ayn Rand.

Completely hate Ayn Rand. Luckily most academics acknowledge how she's devoid of any philosophical or literary value.

I agree. Do you just dislike her objectivism or is there more to it?

I dislike her for her objectivism and for her as a person.
I've read Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. I can see why the Fountainhead appeals to a lot of angsty teenagers* with its glorification of the individual and its rhetoric of the romantic triumph of the self's ideals over the status quo and other shit that sounds pretty. That far, the Fountainhead MIGHT be considered a nice book - who could argue against individuality?
But then when you see how the bitch was in person, in interviews, and through personal accounts, you see it's all bullshit.
She didn't care about the exaltation of the ego, she only cared about her ego. Objectivism asserts certain ethical values, but also political, aesthetic, and metaphysical; and if you dare disagree with Ayn Rand, then you're just an idiot who's kidding himself and some day you'll grow up.
So much for individualism when you can't disagree with one single point of Ayn Rand.
*I'm not referring to this person of this thread in this. It's just been my experience that people that like Ayn Rand fell for her in high school when they felt they didn't belong.

I agree she is full of herself and when I read Atlas Shrugged it honestly pissed me off.

Of course objectivism is bullshit. Personally, I'm fascinated with Rand the same way I'm fascinated by a nasty car wreck... I know I'm looking at a ghstly mess but I MUST stare. Let's just call it literary masochism. To you pain, to me pleasure.

So, I thought I would do the newbie thing, too.
1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
Hair stylist.
2. Where are you from?
a major city in GA.
3. Who is your favorite author?
Poe never gets old. Nothing like it.
4. What are your favorite films?
I love horror movies...the campy ones are fun, but classic Vincent Price films are good, too. I also like silent movies, and the regular action/commercial crap that everyone sees, too.
5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
Already married. We went with Ava Maria, and a bunch of "party favorites" for the reception...I wasn't looking to make a statement with my wedding, and afterall, my parents paid for it.
6. At your funeral?
Who cares? I won't be there to hear it anyway.
7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
from old age, in my sleep, and without pain. Well, it is the truth...
8. What kind of casket would you want?
A real 6-sided casket, made of wood, painted black, with a pale purple satin quilted lining. I want to go to the crypt in style.
9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
jeans, t-shirt, either Docs or heels, and my hoodie. I only dress up to go out.
10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
total lack of responsibility.
11. What's your favorite band?
Cure. Damned. Smiths. I am not too picky.
12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
College graduate. Hated teaching History to high Schoolers. Became hair stylist. Now, I teach cosmetology.
13. Why did you join?
Why not?
14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Female.

With that, I think Indego might do okay here.

No, It was intentional.
Not a threadjack, but a trading of info, specifically intended for Indego, who is looking to meet people.
Thanks for the concern, though. They should make you the hall monitor.

Well, why don't you then, dear. I promise not to cry (if I can help it).
Honestly, you (and your opinions) seem about as scary as a cloudy day.
If it makes you feel good, go ahead and give it to me. I am sure I will live.

Honestly, I'm not being a jerkass and I know that your trading of info was completely harmless but it's just polite to make your own thread. There's also shout boxes for everyone here if you want to leave them a message.
