There's a lot of merit to that statement.
I am letting it go.
I understand what everyone says Sagan meant, and I actually believe that is what he intended to say. We're just going to have to agree to disagree about whether the words actually mean that.
Because, yeah, I am a literalistic type person. I don't typically jump on the semantics bandwagon for the sake of picking on semantics, but sometimes the meaning of words really does matter to me.

Yo Despanan. I rolled by your open mic last night, but I couldn't find you. After an admittedly short while, I judged that I wasn't getting sufficiently trashed and didn't want to stand next to my ex's roommate anymore, so I left.
Next Tuesday we should arrange to meet outside, or some place where I can yell "Despanan".

Sorry Saya, it is mice... crafty little devils. Of course the Earth was designed by Slartibartfast

Sounds like this thread is venturing more into cosmology?

Well... It could be useful to have a general basis for "how" before we even start to bother with "why"...
What I want to know is why there needs to be a why...*snicker*

That presupposes that there's an answer to a "why"

Oh shit dude, sorry. We actually ended up not going (had some stuff crop up at the last minute) I would've called you but I hadn't heard anything since my last post so I figured you'd be busy.
Thanks for rolling by. We can totally do this coming tuesday, or if you feel like being up REALLY late on thurs. the 2and, you could come to God Tastes Like Chicken. I've been writing sketches for that show.
You've got my phone # right?

Sheer existence is boss. Except when my daughter pisses me off. I am going to the whining section.

Seriously, everyone was nothing and then they were something, even God, if you believe in God. Attaching any purpose to living, outside what the person establishes for themselves would have to be realized through spiritual forces. Therefore, if asking for a reason for existence a person must believe in fate, karma or other forces super imposing a grander life lesson, vocation or meaning to life.

My bad, thank you very much otherwise I'd have been doing that for years to come.
But yeah, if you wanted my honest opinion - why do we exist?
Bottom line. Because our parents thought it would be a good idea to have kids (for some reason). And one day, a great number of us will perpetrate the same thing on our kids leaving them to argue pretentiously with each other on forums over the same thing.
If you wanted something more in-depth and meaningful, well... tough. My own reason for existing or continuing to exist is to enjoy life. As far as anyone can tell for sure, you only get one shot so make the most of it.

That's just an observation. It's not a solution. SOMEBODY has to be wrong and somebody has to be right.
I like to think that a lack of believing in a higher purpose makes one more accurate.
Hate to say it, but spiritually, personal convictions just wont ever be good enough.

Aha.. There is a notion that we chose our parents so we can have certain life experiences.
Saya I never dabbled with the dark arts when I was a teenager. I think I spent too much time in the closet under the stairs

Who was it? Billy Joel, of all people, I believe:

"we exit because god loves us."
That's what Job should have done before god killed his family, destroyed his life and gave him horrible boils... love like that? I'll pass.
