Thanks, Drake. A lot of it for me is that I have a son who I love very much. Early on these people swore up and down that there would be no draft. Of course they also seem to have led their supporters into believing that the war would be a cake-walk, and that Saddam (still) had WMD. My son is 13 now and, big surprise, the war is not over yet.

Who started draft rumor?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in647612.shtml

Basically the rumor started on the net and a few (few) politicians stated a draft idea.. that's all IMHO it was about scare tactics for Dems to gain power and do more bush bashing.

Sorry Kane, it was always just a rumor. Also, troops are being pulled out of Iraq for good now. I'm at Ft Bragg and there's tons more soldiers coming back with no future talk of them returning.

Interesting site and inside info

Hey, ArtificialOne. Nice avatar! Believe me. No apologies are necessary in terms of their not actually being a draft. I see the current state of affairs in America and the world at large as conducive to the likelihood of a draft, regardless of who says what. I don't place a hell of a lot of stock in what anyone says, least of all politicians of whatever party. On that note I do hope you're right. Knock on wood and praise the good.

AO -

And again you avoid the meat of my question and side step any real debate here.

You also, again, bring up arguments you lost in other threads. Cuba is a brilliant place, which is a tourist resort many mates and family members of mine visit often - contrary to what the US government tries to tell you. The rest of the world goes there and can tell you how it really is.

Also as far as your misguided thoughts on why Europe has such great benefits for children (it's not just Ireland - the uk and the rest of Europe along with Australia also have these same benefits) it appears you have again pulled a theory out of thin air to try and justify things in your own mind.

Even IF, and I say 'if' because this is by no means true, you were right about Europe paying people to reproduce to increase the tax base, then even then it wouldn't be a bad thing, would it?

If you give the average human the option of having their health care paid for and child rearing paid for by the government for ANY reason versus leaving children to dig in dumpsters alongside their homleess parents - what do you think they would choose?

Then you finish with more right-wing propoganda about how well the 'wars' are going. I almost fell out of my seat laughing. In Afghanistan, they had the most casualties even this year. Same with Iraq. Thats progress? At the same time you trumpet the American economy I watch the news as the American stock market took the worst header since 9/11 - and analysts say it's only going to get worse.

I again ask - where exactly do you get this crap you spew from?

And again I aks - what makes you better than anyone who you constantly talk down about? For a person your age you sure have a lot of hate for many, many people, who you have never met and (as we can plainly see here) have no real idea about.

Actually, no I haven't trumpted the economy lately.

And you are now the one ignoring evidence of any progress in Iraq. Why? Because it makes the last 5 yrs of your life shit. Because if things go good, it proves you wrong. Which you can't possibly tollerate because of all things, that's what megalomaniacs are. It gives you power to always be in the right. Which is the same thing you prostalize about how bad the Right is. It gives you power to try and preach your philosophy and convert others. And to do that you have to demonize them, or someone.

You claim I know nothing about the US and it's people. I think I've traveled the US more than you and have spent a better amount of time in it than you. Why this doesn't make me an expert, I have a little bit better firsthand knowledge than someone sitting at a computer trapped in Ireland for the last 7yrs or so.. however long you've been on the no fly list by your account.

You also ignore any evidence in any links I post as well. Really convenient to just ignore stuff isn't it stern. And don't try your high and mighty crap with me, with your reverse phsychology telling me I talk down about people when you are the one who starts threads about how negative america is and other bs, not to mention all your american bashing slurs you put into your posts. I well know the tricks that people like you play stern. Your tricks are quite simple and used by many a tyrant and dictator... If you can turn someone into a badguy then you can base your hate and focus to gain support. This works especially well for people who prostalize "Social Justice" and reform. Basically if you don't agree with anything they say. Suddenly you're a minority basher or sexist or god knows what the next bumper slogan is they'll make you the next anti "it".

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypocrite
just incase you forgot what one is stern.

So yeah stern go ahead and tell people I've been saying the economy was good... I said that months ago.. And lots happens in that amount of time.

Tell people I'm spewing so called propaganda... What? Just because maybe the facts don't point in your direction? That makes you look bad not me.

I'm a poor bashing uncompassionate person.. sometimes.. When it's obviously someone abusing our system and basically stealing our tax dollars to feed drug addictions. When you get an incentive for having more kids when you are on welfare? When a system makes it pay more to stay home on welfare than to find a job.. Yeah.. Sure there are exceptions of people who don't make that criteria, but you know.. there's lots that don't. And I sure don't want to expand any money to services that are cleary in need of fixing. I happen to like the way the unemployment system works in the US. You get back what you pay in and then when it's gone it's gone. But it's your money. And it sure makes you think about getting another job becuase you know the money will run out.

And where do I get this so called crap I spew.. here's something you can chew on...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_sense

Does it make sense to propose massive social programs with no way to pay for them. Does it make sense to make social programs without plans to move people off of them? Does it make sense to make these programs when the existing ones are so broken? Who appointed the govt mom and dad.. People like you stern. They can't handle the jobs they have and you want to pile on more stuff for them to carry.

I AM for restructuring govt period. It's way to fat, ran way to badly and leaks money like an irishman after a night at the pub.

But, that somehow makes me an insensitive asshole.

And who gives me the right to talk down about people.. people who fought for my freedom for one. And of course I am better than some people. I'm better than a crack dealer, a whore, a junkie and an underachiever. Why? Becuase I say so. And who are you to tell me I don't have that right. The difference is, I think everyone should have the same chance and not special treatment through extraordinary large and wasteful government programs. I believe people should help themselves, families should help each other, and friends help friends. The govt isn't mother Theresa and should have as few jobs as possible becuase they can;t handle the ones they have now.

Oh lets not forget Cuba. Now I know you'll be totally blind to any evidence contrary to your belief that cuba is a socialist pardise. This may be more for the benefit of other readers. Obviously if you read it you'll see right wing propaganda, american spin and other such nonsense. That's why I put a few got blurbs from a few of your favorite places like Amnesty Int., etc. Enjoy.

http://noggia.blogspot.com/2007/12/real-cuba.html

And, if we did open trade with cuba. I'm sure the govt would fall soon. Not that I'm interested. There's much nicer, people friendlier places to go down there.

Regardless of any feelings I have for A.O.'s avatar, I am with you oh captain, my captain. My feeling is that you will know them by their fruits. My sense for the longest time, just going by instinct, has been that the intention seems to be wrecking the economy. And now back to the news. Know what I mean?

Another reason NOT to vote clinton...

Clinton Gets Most Lobbyist Money, McCain Most Help

http://news.**********/s/bloomberg/2...ECy2Powous0NUE

Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Democrat Hillary Clinton has raised more money from lobbyists than any other presidential candidate while Republican John McCain has more of them assisting his campaign.

Clinton took in $823,087 from registered lobbyists and members of their firms in 2007 and the second-biggest recipient was McCain, who took in $416,321, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington-based group which tracks political giving. Barack Obama, Clinton's rival for the Democratic nomination, doesn't take money from registered lobbyists, although he received $86,282 from employees of firms that lobby, according to the center.

The thing that gets me is, clinton has BACKED every bush bill that was put through in the past few years. Clinton supports the war, unlike most dems. Clinton's new 'heathcare' plan is nothing more than a new window dressing for the current system.

Clinton = the next bush. She has the same policies, is taking large amounts of money from the same lobbyists, and is voting the same way as he does.

I'm not saying that you should decide who the president is based on Race/ethnicity. Al sharpton..... uumm yeah no thanks.

I'm simply saying that there has never ever been a president who identified as Black (or anything besides white), and its a big deal to me. I mean if he wins it will have a big impact on allot of the kids who I know. They will see that they have a chance at being a president if they want to.
Black people started off in a hole (in America) and I don’t really think were out of it yet but Obama is a signifier . Even if I'm not pro gov etc etc It makes me happy that the dominant culture is more excepting now. I will say again I don’t really think the pres will be able to "fix" everything because its so Brocken now. But the president is a symbol and it would be nice to have someone that looked like me. It seems like the majority of those “in control” are white men.
Yeah I don’t really care if people think I’m stupid for thinking this I’ve already been told a couple times.

It would be great if Bush would just cheat again and some how get a 3rd term in office and then the citizens rise up and burn the efffing white house down.

Sorry, it wont change a damned thing. Not to be a jerk, but I'm disappointed that race means something to you on this kind of level. Being a lower mid class white guy, I SERIOUSLY do not care if my next president is Black or even Asian or anything other that White. I don't mean to be abrasive, but I'm disappointed that race is a determining ray of hope for not just you, but many and here, for me, a common American is just worried about performance in general of any person within the country when it comes to who's running it.

He doesn't have to win, other races have been able to run for president for decades or more now.

Are you saying that a substandard Black president would be a good choice over another white, yet highly competent president?
