Is Death Metal Gothic?

I want to know if bands like Cannibal Corpse and Lamb of God are Gothic. I know that lamb of god isn't true death metal, but they are close as hell. ^_^

I personally wouldn't consider either of those bands to be 'gothic' music.
Just some genre of metal.

Death metal might be considered some 'new form' of gothic music by younger people.

I personally don't care what genre the music I listen to is, as long as I enjoy it.
I don't care is metal is 'gothic' or not. It's just music in the end.

You know what makes me sad about music? The over complicated genres. I can understand the point of BASIC genre classification (metal, indie, pop etc etc) it helps you identify bands similar to ones you already know and like, which is handy but all these sub genres? Just fuck off with it, please. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if that metal is gothic, doom, black, super gay muppet bastard from outer space metal or anything else for that matter. All that matters is that YOU enjoy listening to it.

People feel the urge to create all of those sub-genres so they can fit themselves into a neat and tidy little box. Honestly: I don't get why.

That's bullshit, people don't listen to just ONE genre. Thus, 'overcomplicated genres' are not so that people "can fit themselves into a neat and tidy little box"
That's fucking stupid and you're just saying it so you can feel special.

I guess no one really understood your question...
I think people may want it to be gothic because it fits the persona they are trying to give off.
Like "look at me, I'm so goth. I listen to X band and that genre is gothic".
Or perhaps I still misunderstood your question...

+1

They call it death metal because they don't classify it as gothic.

Also, death metal sucks. You will never hear it played at a G/I club or event no more than you would hear country music.

If you do hear either, it is fair game to strike the DJ with whatever you find laying around the club.

This.

But to be a douche/know it all.

Only one of those bands is even considered "death metal" and that would be Cannibal Corpse. Lamb of God isn't true death metal. True death metal would be bands like Autopsy, Carcass, mid era Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, early Entombed, etc etc.
