Thank you

No, I wasn't able to go. I would have just taken a cab, but I realized the party was over an hours drive away.

Pity, you did look very 80's... just about like a girl I had a crush on in high school, except she didn't have a mohawk... though she wore all the chains and spikes.

My suggestions for next time you want to go in a 80's costume:

Find a black t-shirt... if you're real lucky and live in a large city, you may be able to find one at a thrift store with an 80's new wave band on it. If it doesn't look well worn already after being in a thrift store, find a way to make look a bit worn... like you just don't wear it on occassion. If you can't find one, just a black "regular-Hanes" t-shirt will do.

As for makeup, I would suggest a Siouxsie-type effect... it doesn't have to be a direct copy, but a pale face and the "Egyptian-type" use of eyeshadow around the eyes will look very good. Once again, going back to the girl I had a crush on in high school, she just simply circled her eyes thickly with black makeup so that not only were her eyelashes totally thick and black, but around the rest of her eye without the lashes, she had a thick black circle.

Just suggestions... I claim in no way to be an authority, although I did lust after a lot of gothic females during the 80's and do remember the look well...

Phayte - that is a real pity you couldn't make it, I agree with Falken you did look very 80's. For another idea for next time you could keep the same style of hair and makeup and go in a more new romantic style of dress, think knickerbockers, pirate shirts and velvet bolero jackets.

That was one of my favourite combos!

And Phayte, hunny, you looked completely yummy. And very authentic. Loved the little gloves.

Yep, a sort of Adam Ant look as well... uniform pants with a stripe (like a band uniform), the pirate shirt you said and the bolero jacket. Then paint your face with Native American tribal markings.

I think this is about what Emerald is talking about:

http://www.ultra-pop.org/images/band/adam_and_ants.jpg

but Adam Ant also wore a nice jacket with braiding... probably would be hard to find:

Funny, while looking through the Adam Ant images, I found an homage page to 80's fashion:

Falken, they fucking disabled the Private Messaging. So I no longer have your email. Well, the song I wanted to send you by Gary Numan is called "Haunted". If you have Limewire, I highly suggest you download it. Otherwise our attempts to communicate will be hindered for a while it seems.

Let me think about it. I was 13 in 89, so that was a whole year. Think someone did call me a Goth. However, at that time I didn't know what one is.

Got detention once. A real Goth was in the room. We chatted. (exciting year)

I got into Kiss, Black Sabbath, and Alice Cooper, when i was like 10.
Then in the eighties i got into Christian Death, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, The Damned, T.S.O.L, etc..And a lot of punk rock bands that would get me hyped up to Skate.
The 80's were the best time to see goth/punk bands, they were much more prevelant and they didn't cost 50 dollars to see a show.

So we have to weed out who are the real ones that were born with this state of mind, and who are just the impersonating morons.

You basically are an original, because you helped fuel a young idea for others like you, that would soon follow in later years.

What's sad about that is,i'd have to agree to this and it's my own generation.
I have no fucking idea how bands like My Chemical Romance and a lot of others in the same boat are classified as goth.*well, somewhat can tell*
I don't really think id call myself goth really, but I'm more than some of the pussys of my age.The Cure,Bauhaus,Souxsie and the Banshees,I can go on naming it,but I feel no need to.
And this "emo" thing..I believe the goverment made this up to distract parents into worrying about your child turning into a cunt than real issues.I guess.

Also then again,Teenagers are retarded.Not all,but some.Hormone carriers~~

while I was born in '92, when I entered the goth scene I was heavily influenced by the old ways. Alien Sex Fiend is still one of my favorite goth bands, and I still have several pairs of fishnet shirts. I've changed since then, but you have my respect and envy for actually getting to be there.
