I wouldn't call someone who dresses differently a rebel - I mean, a rebel would want to change something right? And noone cares exept their own parents if they change their way of dressing. There are very active rebels today, however, and they are called terrorists.
I agree with almost nothing in todays society, but I know that it's not gonna change because I dress "wierd."

That being said (and of course in the most joking of meanings)......
Labeling is a necessary evil. It helps us get the words out of our mouths when describing everything from the type of parsley to the ethnicity of the individual, but at the same time- that labeling can and has been abused by less educated and malicious individuals.
"Homo" (imo) is a perfectly ok term to describe a person who leads that kind of life style. Saying "homosexual" can become a mouthful after a while.
Same with the word "gay." Though saying that you're friend is "gay" because they said or did something that you think is uncool is pushing it.
"Breeder" can be another word for "stud" in the animal world, but when applied to humans you can see how even though by definition the word still kind of properly applies- it's nothing but hurtful and demeaning.
So again-
Labeling= necessary evil.

Well- granted there ARE many other more appropriate words out there, but as most people get defensive when you call them on something.....
Also- for the most part- I'm pretty middle of the road/teetering more towards liberal.

I just try not to refer to someone by their sexual preference unless I'm close enough to them to joke around with them. I have a friend who makes fun of me for being black, and she's just kidding around or whatever, and I tell her things like she's one of the wimpiest lez's I've ever met, or make fun of her because I know she secretly likes guys. Only under circumstances like that would I use those terms.

It's also very much about tone.
I can say, "Yeah, Rachel's a homo", and mean a plethora of different things depending on my tone and the context of the sentence. To me, that means that "homo" is still one of those in-between words. However, I probably wouldn't call someone a homo without knowing them, whereas I might say that someone's gay or lesbian without knowing them personally.

I kind of see an epithet as being of a negative connotation whereas a label is neutral.
