Gun Buy Back program is a rip off!!!

http://www.10news.com/video/22028335/index.html

"Several local gun owners are turning in their weapons in exchange for gift cards as part of a program sponsored by the San Diego Police Department."

The "Gun Buy Back Program" offers $100.00 for every Long gun and $50.00 for every Handgun.

Sound like a good deal? these are hard times for everybody after all, unless you have an idea for what a given firearm make and model will go for on the used or collector market.

A few of the weapons shown were worth many times what they were being given away for,if private sales were legal in Commiefornia I could have loaded up on a bunch of sweet deals (I saw a few old Colts,Winchesters,Remingtons and what looked like an old Ruger Mark 1 in the pile)

Are you really that thick? The gun buy back program is not so gun owners can make a few bob, its to give amnesty to anyone who has an illegal gun that wants to give it to the police to keep it off the streets.

Really, well why is it many of the turn in's were older weapons that had been kept at home?

They weren't just turning in Jennings or other Bryco junk, but very well made and valuable colloctor's pieces For instance a Winchester Model 12 was one of the examples being turned in for next to nothing considering the real value of the weapon. ($600.00-$1000.00).

I didn't see too many thugs or gang Bangers lining up to turn over crime guns.

Well, it's my impression that gun buy-back offers and gun laws in general don't work, but that's a different debate best left to the thread I'm sure already exists in the politics section.

Your beef was with the amount of money being paid, which is just dense. Who cares. I for one think that only people who wanted the money offered gave up these "priceless" valuable antiques that you were slavering over. And I'm glad the government got the guns and not someone else. And I'm glad it didn't cost more taxpayers dollars to do it.

What I don't care about is whether you think the sellers got a raw deal. Come on! Why weren't you on the lot bitching for me when I signed my last car purchase?

Because Cars aren't my thing (plus they go down in value as soon as you drive off the lot).

That's bollocks. Car value fluctuates depending on desirability. A Ford Cougar will be worth next to nothing and will probably just drop in value, but A Ford Focus RS or a Ford Mondeo ST, will most probably become desirable classics and will fetch mental prices in 20 to 30 years time.

And what you don't understand is that the value of old (Read that as a number of Dis-continued) firearms (especially those in good shape-N.I.B. condition) are steadily going up in value all the time from one year to the next and have been doing so for decades in a number of cases.

I'll post a link to an example.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...=150541769#PIC

The link is to a Winchester Model 1894 30-30 Winchester Center Fire it dates back 1919.

The reason things like that is because they arn't very common anymore, so if anything this gun buyback program is turning the guns that are left into rare collectables.

*Opens Envelope Reads aloud* The "Most annoying Stereotype" award goes to.....*Drum Roll*

Lakita Jackson!

Is it any surprise I ask ya'?

L.J. you've worked very hard for this award in my opinion you have earned it.

You're also up for "Best Race Card Player" "B.R.C.P." for short.

Keep up the hack work and you'll go nowhere.

Thanks, but you really gave me a run for my (presumably stolen) money with your whole "gun lovin' redneck" act.

Phew, what a relief! I'd like to thank the academy, my mama, my fans...

To quote a TV show I watched once, I think he's using "a 22 caliber mind in a 357 magnum world."

Per my original post, these gigs give you complete anonymity and th ability to turn in illegal guns without penalty. All of those older weapons were probably stolen.

Do you really think gang bangers go around with modern weapons? Most use whatever they can get their hands on in home burglaries, things like older guns.

Also, all guns collected in these drives are tested to see if they are linked to any crimes, then destroyed.
