I would have to agree with this. Given, I haven't been here for very long, but it seems that on the other forums I have been on Private Messaging has been quite nice and awfully convenient. In fact, it's really quite unusual to see a forum with Private Messaging disabled. Why does this forum have the option for Private Messages, but the function is disabled?

Just out of curiousity, how often do the Admin Gods visit the site? I swear I'm not saying anything about the state of the boards, because I think they're very nice, but I've seen a few questions in this thread that haven't been responded to, and I wondered if anyone knew if this was because the Admins chose not to answer them or haven't seen them yet.

I think it must be daily, as I posted my request yesterday, and today the spam is gone, so they seem dilligent. But then, I keep slipping $20 bills under their door...

PMing is gone ... people have been asking for it back for more than 3 months and it's become clear that the administration has no intention of restoring it.
A question I would like to ask is why the "forgot your password?" prompt is missing from the login process. If you forget your password, there is no way to recover it, even though the FAQ still details the process by which you can have your password emailed to you if you forget it.

Admin Gods:
I have noticed all week that the Gothic net response time has been very slow. Other sites respond quickly (Google etc.) so I know it isn't that my computer needs defragging, but on the other end. Is it time for some maintenance? Maybe defragging on your side or add a couple more DMZ servers please?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. I must back up Humane on this one. I thought it was my computer, but apparently not.

I know it ain't gonna happen, but having PM's back would be wonderful. I've 3 unread, which I'm pretty sure were about Beowulf's ideas for a Gothzilla cartoon...or along the lines of Gothzilla....*sigh*
But I agree on slow response thing.

I have noticed the improvement Gnet Gods, thank you!
(slips $20 bill under the door and immediately uses up 50 GB of disk in total disregard...)

Hi...there's a section of this site called 'Introductions'. It's kinda big & I doubt you'll miss it. Go introduce yourself there rather than a thread for requests.

Something that would be awesome for the site:
Auto-sizing avatars!
I've seen it in other boards and it's awesome.
It saves us the bother of shrinking them, and as I don't have paint, it will allow me to change of avatar finally.

If you do attempt to log in and fail, you are taken to this page:
https://www.gothic.net/boards/login.php
On that page is a sentence that reads:
You have entered an invalid username or password. Please press the back button, enter the correct details and try again. Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? You have entered an invalid username or password. Please press the back button, enter the correct details and try again. Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Click here!
The Click here! portion links to a password retrieval page:
https://www.gothic.net/boards/login.php?do=lostpw
Sorry you missed it Ben. Maybe we'll make that more obvious.

There is a bug in the registration page. The verification image is partially hidden, one letter is hidden and another is only half visible. Tested with firefox and opera. However i'm not sure if this is an isolated case.

How about more mods in the forums?
Also, how about a review of banned words? I mean, I know some words like r-ape are banned for what would appear to be a 'good' reason, but much like the American libraries who banned such terms, one finds in legitimate discussions about events and politics that this word, along with a few others, are needed.
Another side note - typing a word in the format 'r-ape' will bypass the censor system, but search engines which drop hyphens '-' still pick it up and if you search for the original censored word you will see this site in the results. If keeping GNet out of the results list when searching for certain keywords was the goal, its not working (just a friendly observation from a SEO guru).
Wouldn't having more mods to review each forum be a better use of resources? Ban people who would use harsh words in the derogatory sense or when aimed at actual people, but not when having discussions about topics like abortion or current events in say Iraq.
And finally why is Yahoo . Com a banned term? Is Yahoo considered taboo for some reason? Why are all references to Yahoo verboten?

On the one hand, the SEO advice is helpful, but to be honest, not that many people spell the term incorrectly in precisely the format as to defeat the intent of the original auto-star. I guess you are just too clever for us to be able to achieve our goals in your presence. Part of the point of starring out certain terms though is so that we can tell when someone has made the effort to circumvent what is made to be kind of obvious. If you let it star the terms, it's not like people won't know what you are talking about anyway. If you had something so pertinent to the subject and so valuably informative, starring out the actual objectionable term really shouldn't undermine your ability to make your intellectual point at all.

All I can say is, more mod/admin actions. That doesn't mean member bannings, or topic deletions, but simply more interaction from the mods/admins. Just let us know you're all here.
I say this because in the few days I've been here (yes, I know, I'm a nooblet), I've seen several "oh, there's no mods here, blah blah blah" comments. I think things would be more cordial if people knew that the mods/admin were actually around.
(No offense intended.)

Ok, but what about Yahoo? Why is it 'auto-starred' (is that a word?)

Not sure, would have to look into it. I think it was because a certain troll was trying to post members personal emails or something. It was probably a quick, if not terribly effective, fix for that.

There's an "ignore member" option. Is there an "ignore topic" option? If not, that would be nice.

Or you could just exercise some self-control... There's nothing to say you HAVE to read/post in any given topic.
