It's so true though! I swear, we need a goth to goth translator. So far I've figured out:

Goth = House/Techno
Industrial = Metal
Post-Punk Revival = Pop-punk

Deathrock = Goth
Post-Industrial = Industrial
Post-Punk = Actual Post-Punk

Nothing means what it's supposed to these days. :-(

Oh and speaking of irrelevant, please post an intro Silent_Death and just don't post stuff off topic here on someone elses'.

Oh my, I do hope you don't misunderstand. If Industrial = Metal at the club I help promote, people would just LEAVE.

Actually, I'm confused, Deli...

What areas do you go to where these words mean something completly different?

The 80's. ;-)

Seriously though, myspace bands that put "industrial" in their name are almost completely denied access to my friends' list; it's about a 95% chance of them being metal - I wouldn't even give their CD out at my night. The EBM phenomenon thing is pretty sad, too. I should have mentioned that EBM = Futurepop, and Futurepop = Old & dying; I don't think real EBM has been made in a very long time. :-(

Oh, PFFFFFTTT. No shit, eh? That much I can understand.

I get annoyed at the bands that are metal and claim industrial... or metal bands that claim goth. *rolls eyes*

Yeah, really though. :-D It's amazing with so much good information out there these days, that those types of bands even manage to fool themselves.

I HAVE ran into a club that played goth rock and yes, it was called Deathrock by the club.

My advice for clubs:

1. Be friendly
1. Be yourself
2. Go there for the music, not the people
3. The ones who make their opinion on you based on your knowledge in the music are shallow.
4. Have fun, but try to associate the ones with CHARACTER who aren't overtly elitist.
5. If people want to start dropping band names to sound cool, just hear them out, take note, and look into the bands yourself.
6. Do what you do. No one but you justifies your existance.

Thank you Kontan for the advice!^^ I'll be sure to remember that when I go to a club for the first time.

Hah! Of course, so much money and researching spent just to make something different, as little as it may be. Gah! I laughed when we were talking about marketing and pyschology in my pyschology class. It just...doesn't seem nessacry.

Well, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that they're still trying to figure out how to make us that gullible! Of course, the realist in me knows that it's not nearly as necessary. ;-)

It's amazing how much work goes into proving what you did was work; especially higher up the management food chain. It's as if doing something good isn't good enough - you have to prove it was a struggle to do it as well! :-D
