I have the same problem with my mom, so what I would do (and am still doing) is avoid getting a haircut by spiking your hair. The reason is because for me, it makes my hair look shorter than it actually is....try it, if you want.
I still say that your mom shouldn't hate goths, there's nothing wrong with them. My mom hates them because she thinks they're non-heterosexual....

my mum thinks that all goths worship the devil and sacifice live animals and beleives every thing she sees on tv abouts us
i told her satanism is a f**king relegion and that the closest i get to satanism is black metal and black magick (evil side of wicca)
thanx ill try the spikey hair bit but it wont help to long i want my hair down past my shoulders

Oh dear *sighs*, my mother was like that too. But I explained to her that not all goths are satanists. And that not all goths do drugs, ect. Oh, and that not all goths are gay, but I am (lol). It really pisses me off when parents become closed minded idiots. You should learn more about the subculture, and educate to your mum. Now if she still doesn't understand you, then you are just going to have to deal with her bullshit, until you are old enough to get your own place.

My mum isn't too bad, she freaked out a little at first, but then for my 18th she got me my first tattoo. She isn't exactly happy about all my piercings though, but my arguement is that I'm old enough to pay someone to stick needles where ever I so choose, and if I can afford to have it done then I will.

Your mother cannot force you to keep your hair short.Your hair is your own, and what you do with it is your business. Just tell her that and then ignore her. I think at 16 you are old enough to decide wHat to do with your own hair.

Just let it grow!! if she cuts it herself at night or something then refuse to speak and refuse to go to school and stuff or something. Then when she moans about that, its her fault for not letting you grow it =D
