It's not only with home invasion attackers. A friend of my boyfriend was walking along his home street with two friends when they saw some guys who looked like they were being mugged. They went to help only to have both the 'attacker' and 'victims' turn and mug them, breaking the nose of one and the jaw of another. An act of altruism met with such an unnecessary act of violence, and the bastards who did it were never caught.
Aren't we humans just swell.

*sigh*
It's awful to think of humans being so cruel; especially to each other. It's even worse that somebody would take advantage of peoples natural inclination to help...We are flawed as a species.

Pirates do this a lot too, they'll get in a raft and paddle towards a boat and tell them they were shipwrecked, and once on the boat of course they attack the people on the boat and rob them.
Ever since I watched A Clockwork Orange I've made up my mind, if anyone outside my door says they need help I'll call 911 for them >.> Unless of course its clear that they really are in trouble (in my old building this girl came by crying and was covered in puke, she couldn't stand up either. She stayed out in the hall but I waited with her for the paramedics)That may seem cowardly but I'd really rather not get r@ped to the tune of Singing In The Rain.

Something similar to that was happening in my neighborhood last March/April. Except the guy was posing as apartment place maintenance or a police officer, etc. He got through like 4 or 5 homes before they caught him.

I've read enough news stories about people doing awful things to each other that I'm usually too burned out to be shocked anymore. The one exception is when I read stories about people using the kindness of their victims as a weapon against them. Death by slow torture is too good for these people.

Yeah. That would make escaping too simple.
Con-Man: Ugh... this hurts so bad...
Torturer: Fuckshitniggadick it's supposed to!
Con-Man: Oh, come on. The pain's horrible. Put yourself in my shoes, man...
Torturer: You know what... I'll let you go. But don't try anything funny.

It is much, much more probable that you're going to end up in distress and no one will want to help you, than that you're going to be backstabbed by someone you were trying to help.
I'd rather suffer as an idealist than live as a cynic.

I'll try to help if I feel the need for it, but will keep my distance (Lessons learned the hard way) Other than that I'll be a good witness.
