Constantine
If someone could ever monumentally botch a comic book adaptation (in this case Hellblazer) this is it. Realistically it's not as bad as Catwoman, but up there in the top 10.
Idon't really mind the fact that John Constantine in this flick wasn't blonde and British with a tru-blue cockney accent. But waht really grates is that this had the potential to become a crticially acclaimed masterpiece. I don't balme the director for this. I blame the surgical disaster that is the script. Keanu reeves tried. But he can't pull off th job as a nasty chain-smoking bastard. And replacing his mate Chas with a teen named Chaz who 's about as dense as they get is one of the worst things they did.
On to the plot. Constantine here is portrayed as a mage who can see semon's and tried to kill himself becuse of it thereby commitiing the Christian mortal sin. Now he's basically doing brownnosing stuff ie,. fight monster's send them back to hell, with heaven so he can get in theur good graces before his lung cncer (caused by chainsmoking silk cuts) kills him. Thast another major shitpoint. ITs miles away from the actual comic character who's basically doesn't wnat to be in either heaven or hell. But just left alone.

Are you sayin' I'm some clown here to amuse you?
Excellent, excellent movie!!
Ray Liota's still one of the best actors out there!
I watched Limeney Snicket's(I'm not typin' it all out!) yesterday.
Waste of time does not describe it!It looked like it had some promise, but ultimately a huge let down.Maybe I would have liked it better if I were 12?

The Grudge
I didn't understand this one a whole lot. Why was the zombie girl constantly burping? That's what kept registering in my mind as that noise became an auditory motif throughout the film.
I guess I never really got a good look at Sarah Michelle Gellar in the past. Holy shit does that woman have one of the most noticable over-bites in the world. And that woman's beak... oy. They should have used a few camera tricks to decrease the depth of field on Gellar's mug. Probably would have complimented her a bit more, asthetically.
Alot of the visual elements felt ripped off from films such as The Ring (most noticably the security camera footage). Storyline was fragmented in the presentation. I had such a hard time staying in sync with what was happening that I sorta took a breif nap. This is probably blasphemy to some, I know, but I just didn't quite connect with this one.

I don't know if you watched the special features but apparently they attempted to "Americanize" the story a little when they remade it from Ju-on. Unfortunately, if you're not very familiar with Japanese culture, mythology and spirituality, some of the stuff can get lost. I know had it not been for what I've absorbed via osmosis from Sam, I wouldn't have gotten it too well, either.
As for the noise? I guess it was supposed to make the ghost seem creepier. I did like that there was very little CG involved. The woman who played the "ghost" did a marvelous job with just her own body contortions and expressions.

Probably the reason if felt "ripped-off" is because the stories were written and directed by the same guy (at least the Japanese versions Ju-on and Ringu were).
As far as following it goes...I agree it wasn't easy. Mainly because the story wasn't linear. I wouldn't have been able to follow it at all, had I not watched the special features, first .
All-in-all, I liked the movie. But I can see why it didn't go over too well at the box-office.

 DAYM! It did better than I'd thought. I just figured it wasn't doing so well because it didn't -stay- in theatres for long.
Okay...it didn't stay long around -here-.
