So my friend's health insurance premiums have gone up...

And now... he doesn't make enough to afford his insulin.

He's not really the kind of guy that exaggerates or goes into prose about serious matters like this. He's not an alarmist.

This is wrong.

The implications of this matter are very grave. I don't know what to do. There's got to be an alternative here.

I just don't know what to do.

He's got two fucking kids, man...

That is absolute shite.

I'm a diabetic, and you are not joking about it having grave consequences if he can't get his insulin.

There is a OTC supplement called Chromium Picolinate that can help control blood sugar levels by helping your body process sugars (I take in in addition to my meds - I'm on two different insulins and oral meds). It comes in 400mcg tablets and I take 3 tablets 3 times a day as per the advice from my endocrinologist. They cost about $8 per bottle of 100. This might help him to control his sugars without insulin.

If they can get to their Primary care physician see if there is something they can work out with the doctor themselves. My doctor works shit out with us if we can't quite afford the full cost of our meds, sometimes. I sometimes get a steroid allergy shot and it's expensive. The doctor lets us pay when we can afford it if we don't have the money right then.

My Grandmother was on medicaid so she didn't pay for her supplies.

If you live in the United States the State Health Department offer supplementary insurance to assist with higher premiums. As far as I know they will offer a few dollars here-and-there to make premiums more affordable.
