Middle School Goth
Okay, here it is.
I start middle school this year.
I'm not into painting my nails black or wearing eyeliner (sorry, Lambert fans) but I do enjoy wearing a lot of black.
What else could I get away with in middle school? I don't want to get anything confiscated, but I'd like to be myself.
Put another way, how many skulls do you think I could get away with?

What? A guy with fangs can show up on television after foreclosing on a bank in Philly but I can't wear black to middle school?
Am I asking a bad question, or am I just asking for trouble?
I'm assuming most of you around here are older than me, so...

(Just for Mr. Doobie, my new special friend):
I know someone (not me) starting middle school this year.
He's not into painting his nails black or wearing eyeliner (sorry, Lambert fans) but he does enjoy wearing a lot of black.
What else could he (again, not me) get away with in middle school? He doesn't want to get anything confiscated but would like to be himself.
Put another way, how many skulls do you think he could get away with?
To add to this, why do girls automatically get a pass? My friend Beth either looks like she stepped out of a Victorian cemetery or a vampire club and no one blinks twice (not that they should, but there it is). She also just graduated high school... guess that makes a difference, too, huh?

Ah. Well, then, it's good to be back. Missed the place.
Still a two drink minimum, or do you wave that for old trolls?

Your school is your school. Learn the dress code and don't push it if you want to avoid trouble/attention. Otherwise, dress however you want and don't cry when someone says you look like steaming poo.

Save that for the club nights and assholes who dare to wear the same boots or corset as you.

In middle school I dressed in mainstream fashions. There wasn't so much a huge fashion statement as preferring black walking shoes and some interesting accessories here and there. People still knew I was Goth. Even later I'd just wear a black mock turtle neck short sleeve shirt and slacks. No particular pater or design and a simple belt. It was fine and worked well and I didn't feel out-of-place at school.
I have a pic of me about that age in my photo album. I'm in the back.
Guess which one.

Nope, I am the girl three from the right.
Never noticed, but my cousin on the far left is also an okay example. Yep, I remember those years. Everyone was experimenting with what they could get away with until their full Goth appearance emerged.
Later on in High School a friend I grew up with asked me for my photo ids to show the progression of evil to another friend. I always enjoy nice lines and elegance through simplicity, so clothing was too different. Tea collars, retro 30's dresses with pleated hoop shirts, black body suits with flared legs and velvet blazers with peek-a-boo backs, shoulders and golden accents were my level up, but I also stopped tanning. I also started wearing a lot of black eye-liner, so usually it was either full makeup or the remainder of last night's makeup adding accents to my washed out appearance. Yep, evil indeed.

No, I can't wear them in school. Or hats, or have electronic devices of any kibd except for a cell phone in the off position (which I'm all kinds of violating right now). We can't even have book bags in class, so I either have to carry everything before and after lunch or keep going back to my locker every 45 minutes.
First offense, they keep it a week. Second, they don't give it back.
Don't get me started about the "Greene square." You get Saturday morning detention for that crap.
