Alternatives to myspace?

Good alternatives to myspace? (Besides the real life ...)

If you just want blogging and keeping in contact/ up to date with people, Live Journal works very well. Live journal is easier to set up and make pretty, too, but will not have the endless amounts of glittery rubbish and embedded music that MySpazz loves so much.
Facebook is also popular, but I've strenuously avoided it so far.

Facebook is a lot nicer than MySpace, but it seems like more of a way of keeping in touch with people you already know from elsewhere, unlike MySpace which is mostly a meet market.

Bebo looks up and coming, there's Last.fm for music and Good Reads for books, and then there's Vampire Freaks for poseur goths who listen to mainstream metal and pop rock.

I figure it's best just to have a MySpace, because most everyone else does. How the hell are you going to network if you're running something no one else has?

Facebook is good if you're not the kind of person who likes sharing their life with strangers.
