Well looks like I'm going to Louisiana in 26 hours. No time to say goodbye to Wisconsin, not even for my Birthday. I say it every year, and every year I'm right, next year is somehow going to be crappier than last year, at least on average, I pray nothing will ever be as crappy as 2010 was during the first half.

I'm here in Louisiana finally, and I'm in hell. My digestive system is acting up badly. The nights here have a strange cold, a cold normally reserved for the dead, cool and moist. I'm more used to a dry cold, one that drains the breath from your lips. It also smells very different here.

However the place where I'm staying while not in the best part of town, is very nicely furnished on the inside. Our land lady is a flight attendant with an eye for good stuff from goodwill. However from what my father has told me of how organized everything is to stay here, shes apparently a bit OCD. She actually has quite the family, and an interesting library of books. She appears to have some french ancestry like much of the population here. I am quite interested in meeting her, she was supposed to come by yesterday, she might come by instead in the next few days, I have quite a few questions for her.

I basically ended up flying from Milwaukee to Chicago then to Houston and finally Lafayette. I actually had a lovely conversation with a woman from Virginia in Chicago, and apparently there was some sort of Buddist Monk who was bound for Lafayette as well who I encountered in Chicago. Though I was too nervous to ask him anything, not to mention judging from the difficulty he had finding our flight in Houston, I'm guessing he didn't speak English very well, however I don't think its my place to say such things.

Last night I had a lovely dinner of Shrimp Etouffee at this nice New Orleans style casual restaurant, and was rather surprised when on top of the box for the leftovers, the waitress offered to put some soda to go in a foam cup. To me that sounds like a sign of the hospitality of the people here, a good sign. Tomorrow I'm going to a Christmas party at my father's workplace, guaranteed to be filled with more authentic Cajun cuisine, and that Cajun accent that Saya loves so. As someone who loves trying new foods, I'm looking forward to this.

One thing I've also noticed, is people here drink seem to drink a lot more Liquor than in Wisconsin. Throughout minor amount of driving we did last night, I saw 3 Drive-Thru Daiquiri places. On top of that, I'm starting to suspect that all the stereotypes about superstitious people here are true.

I think the thing I need most right now however, is just something to settle my stomach, or at least to be able to throw up, and get all this rumbling in my stomach over with.

If you dislike the humidity, see if you can't get a dehumidifier. I don't know about you but I get really sick after long flights, some gravol and a day of rest will probably make you feel better. It can also be the stress of a new place too.

Drive Through Daiquiris? What the hell??? I want that!

ETA~ What Saya said. You need rest after a long flight. Probably for a day or two. Just quiet so you can relieve some stress.

Grr, I just got a call from my mother who called my father who said that my father feared he might have made a mistake that might cost him his job. So much for thinking this year might turn out better than last year.

Ah well it might be a false alarm(according to my mother who called back), might just be either my mother or father panicking (more likely my mother). I'm relieved now.

DAMN! And I thought the drive-through liquor stores here in Houston were cool!

Well we visited Baton Rouge today. We were hoping to visit the old capitol building which dated back to the early days of Louisiana and is quite well known for it's gothic architecture. So instead we managed enough time to visit the new capital and the USS Kidd.

At the capital building we looked through the meeting areas, looked at the list of state congressional members (looking out for the obvious point at which segregation ended). We also went up to the top and got a nice view of the area. However the most interesting part of being up there was actually the guide stationed up there, and not just because of what he knew of the area. The guide up there was actually a former member of the Kansas City chiefs, he was in super bowl 1 and 4. I'm not a football buff or anything but getting to meet a football player who went to the superbowl up close and personal, and seeing him apparently enjoying his job helping people out (he seemed quite jolly really), and even letting my parents hold his superbowl rings(I didn't really press him to let me touch them, I was rather nervous about the concept of touching such pieces of history at such a high height:P), it's just a nice thing to see.

Then at the USS Kidd we explored the ship, hit our heads, listened to some vintage radio broadcasts, and even got to manually operate some of the AA guns was rather fun really.

Tomorrow we are off to New Orleans.

I've been in the Shreveport-Bossier area the last few years, and it's not so bad. Has potential, though still trying to network and meet people.

I am writing here from the Zot'z cafe here in New Orleans, drinking a glass of ice cold sweet tea(the sweet portion of the name does not lie). We have been through one of it's famous cemetery tours (http://www.hauntedhistorytours.com/Voodoo.htm), taking lots of pictures. Though they're on a disposable camera due to my mother leaving the digital in Wisconsin because for some reason she thought you weren't allowed to bring a digital camera on an airplane. Due to that you guys are going to have to wait to see the pictures we took of the graves, as well as Nickolas Cage's huge eyesore of a hideous desecrating monument to his ego. He took up two whole grave plots as well as desecrating some of the older graves in the cemetery, going to show, he is aiming to be an asshole in death.

I would write more but I'm being pressed by my brother and father to hurry along. My father who all this time has insisted that he is relaxed, yet has said it in a tone that could make the casual observer scared of how he is when he is tense(and rightfully so).

We are now back in Lafayette, had a lovely dinner at a local upscale restaurant consisting of something along the lines of tilapia with a crawfish sauce and some sort of cornbreadish mix on the side. On top of that I had a sort of blue cheese salad. For an appetizer we had a special variety they made for new years eve consisting of fried chicken skins with some sort of powdered cheese, some sort of meatballs that my brother had all to himself due to his not wanting to really eat anything else on the menu, and crab cakes. All together quite tasty, but given the very expensive nature of the food, we probably won't be going back until next new years eve(if the world doesn't end before then muahahahaha!).

I think part of the reason we went there was to make up for the fact that me and my brother had to for some of the time stay in an extremely poorly located days inn hotel, located directly next to the airport, next to the highway, and next to a frequently used set of train tracks. On top of that, on Thursday and Friday nights I found a roaches in the bathroom. He originally planned for us to stay there tonight, but two nights of roaches is more than enough reason to leave a hotel early we think. I'm half surprised it didn't have bedbugs.

Well, my time here in Lafayette has certainly left me with a wide variety of experiences, I'm rather hoping we can sell the house quickly and get this all over with, especially since there is a lovely house down here that we have our eye on and it would be helpful if we could grab it up before someone else does.

Happy New Year to everyone.
