Obama preaching to schools

http://news.**********/s/ynews/20090.../ynews_pl888_1
Obama is going to do a speech for our schools to listen to and discuss.
Pretty much to stay in school and strive for change.
What do you think about it?

Apparently its arranged for next week.

For anyone not in the know the ******** in the link should be y a h o o.com.

Quote:
"It's one thing for a president to encourage all kids to work hard and stay in school – that's a reasonable use of the bully pulpit. It's another thing entirely, however, to have the U.S. Department of Education send detailed instructions to public schools nationwide on how to glorify the president and the presidency, and push them to drive social change."
Jesus fucking Christ on a tricycle, heaven forbid kids be motivated to push for social change. I get that Obama isn't great but seriously? Do they have to pick apart every single thing the guy does? If Bush did this no one would think twice about it. Wouldn't even make the news.

Well while I dont mind the idea of promoting change and all that I dont think they should be shoving Obama down everybody's throats like this.I remember when I was in elementary school, middle school, and high school, we never really talked about the president unless the curriculum involved it.

Frankly I dont like this overexposure of Obama and his family, they're pushing it into the realm of brainwashing, I dont give a damn about what his dog, and his kids are doing everyday. Hell the celebrity gossip shows are reporting on Obama, which is certainly somthing they never did with Bush or Clinton, frankly I dont really remember hearing anything ever about Clinton's kids.

Infact I just had to look in wikipedia to find a small little article about their one daughter. Whereas when I looked at Obama's family info they had all sorts of obscure info like tracing his family all the way back to the 1800s, apparently Obama is 17th cousins with Prince Charles. Hell they have all his aunts, uncles, half uncles, half sisters and brothers, and little biographies about all of them. Like I said before this is overexposure to the extent that it borders on brainwashing. I dont need to know all this crap about him, he's the first black president OK I dont need to fucking know which brand of beer he drinks!!!

Not even the Kennedy's recieved this much exposure and they're a world renouned political family.

I was young when Clinton was in office but I remember Chelsea Clinton did get a lot of flack, I remember Rush Limbaugh calling her the White House dog and a lot of people made fun of her looks.

I get that it must be annoying to be subjected to that day and night (I wouldn't know, no cable) but at the same time its probably because Obama still has to convince some people that he's not a crazy Arab Muslim socialist.

I don't get cable either, this is from simply watching CBS,NBC, FOX, and ABC.(I don't like celebrity gossip shows/morning shows/talk shows but my mother does, so while I'm on the computer I hear what they talk about on them) I dont know how bad the people who have cable are getting pounded.

Actually it seems to be contained to those shows your mother likes, I have yet to see anything about Obama's family, other than the occasional mention of his wife's fashion choices.

Personally I prefer the president being talked about fondly in schools than schools being forced to follow rather strict and unnecessary rules, which frequently impede the learning process, in order to receive federal funding.

Well no they do cover it in the news too, thats how I got the whole beer brand thing, though to be honest I forgot which brand it was since I didn't really pay attention, though I think it was budwiser.

You know Budwiser is the beer of Kings, does Obama plan on becomming a King? (shhhh dont let this outside of the forum, I dont want to be the start of a conspiracy rumor)

Wasn't the controversy about the beer thing was that the company that owns Budweiser isn't American or something? I vaguely remember something about it on Jon Stewart.

Damn, figures, Obama used his beer party to provide a stimulus package to another county. I just looked it up and they are owned by some sort of brazilian belgium thing, and then all the money that is funneled into brazil goes to support the South American drug trade which in turn funds the terrorists. Damn you Obama!! (again keep this in the forum)

The beer thing was because of something else, it had to do with that professor and the cop, I don't remember the whole thing but essentially one of the black professor's neighbors though that the professor was trying to break into his own home and called the cops, the cop didn't exactly handle the situation well. The guy happened to know the president and sorted teh mess out, including having both the professor and the cop come to the white house and they all sat down and drank beer, three different types: Bud (light?) for the prez, Red Stripe for the professor, and I think Blue Moon for the cop but I'm not so sure about the last one. There were a lot of jokes going around about how they couldn't agree on a beer, let alone anything of any importance.

Oh and Bud used to be owned by the Busch family but it was bought by the Belgian company InBev a few years ago but it is still produced in the US. (We get a little company history lesson when we sign on for Howl-O-Scream which is still owned by the Busch family)

He's not the only Pres who has done it. And I don't think that it should be that big of a deal if Obama does it too.

In my school, the teachers will have the choice of showing it to their students or not. I'm going to guess that only about 30 kids are going to be able to see it, because 80% of the teachers in my school are extreeeeemely conservative and hate black people, especially Obama.

If the opposition made a speech for schools, would that be able to make it to schools too?

My secondary school (children aged 11 to 16 or 18) had the local MP visit to give a speech and to be questioned by students on a few occasions.

Pretty much every president since FDR has done it. Only now is it being politicized and turned into such a fiasco.

NBC did a big piece on this the other night They had clips from various fox news shows and of course limbaugh. NBC was right on the money, saying that the right-wing talk show hosts are now just creating conflict whenever they can in efforts to disrupt the presidency, and with the wold plugged in like it is, they get a huge base of people to follow blindly in uniform.

Much like the whole 'birthers' issue, its just something they are throwing out there in efforts to stop the debate on healthcare reform.

I can't believe what a big deal some people are making out of this speech. My children's schools are offering the opt-out option, and it just infuriates me. I'm not so much angry that parents have a choice about it - I mean, it's not my business if they want to keep their children ignorant and brainwashed - but that I never once heard this town make the same offer for a Bush speech. The double standard, the assumptions, the blind one-sidedness just kills me. Don't they realise? Only those who depend upon brainwashing for their own causes need be afraid of someone else using it for an opposite cause. Too bad they didn't teach their children to think critically instead of blindly following authority. Sucks to be them now!

What's wrong with public school Vin? I think it's great you got homeschooled, but that doesn't mean that public school is bad at all.

Personally, I think it's great that our President is telling these kids some valuable advice. The fact of the matter is that a lot more kids are dropping out of school at a younger age. Hopefully it will help them somehow.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Public school at all. My closest friends went to public school and they came out just as "un"brainwashed as I did.
And sure it's great if the president helps out, as far as kids not dropping out... advice is nice... The only reason why I said that I'm glad I was home schooled is because, my mom was all for me thinking for myself and coming up with my own conclusions of society...be immersed and think for yourself. Yes I was taught the basic curriculum that is required...Math, English, etc. I didn't take regular history though because most of what is taught in textbooks is fake anyways. But as far as politics, moral beliefs, and social/economical topics went... I was taught to not agree with the majority of what was said in media ( I would actually watch the news as a kid and then have long ass talks with my mom about what I considered to be pish posh), not to settle for what was said by the government if it conflicted with my OWN moral beliefs and to always, always, always think for myself. If Obama is merely trying to keep kids in school, and that is all that he has on his agenda, in these "meetings" then all power to him. But if it's going past that and he's trying to do other things while at it......then that's where I have a problem.
