If it doesn't mean anything to him how is it a good gift?

Why does your mother even need to know what you buy for your boyfriend?

It's not really all that fantastic or strange to be honest...

It's the cross that St. Peter was crucified upon at his own request. He requested the difference of being crucified because he felt unworthy of dying the same way Christ did. So he was turned upside and died on an upside down cross.

At least that's where the symbol first came from, St. Peter dying on an inverted Latin Cross. It's since been used for various other reasons, but that's more around the roots of it.

Darkhell, I think you're in the wrong place. Try the Hot Topic messageboard, I'm sure they'll be more helpful.

True Story. You know... funny thing, I'm not Catholic or Christian at all for that matter, but I think that I've found I've read the bible more than most who follow the religion. And I read it because of that very reason, I enjoy learning about as much things as I can interest myself in.

Perhaps it wasn't the 'St. Peter's cross' idea that upset your mother's fragile Christian sensibilities so much as the title of 'OCCULT SATANIST GOTH DEVIL'.

It's okay, I guess; the cross itself doesn't look all that dark and depressing.

I would suggest that, since you're 19, that you move out on your own. That way, you won't have to worry so much about what your parents say about your personal life.

St. Andrew was (supposedly) crucified on an X shaped cross, like those you might encounter in an S&M setting.

If you are still under her roof, then she should have at least a say in it.
If you don't then why bother listening??

Why does your mommy have to know what you are getting him? Are you using her money for it or something?

That cross, god, it's not even that weird, it's too plain to even find it's way onto the lowliest of black-metallers.

Tell her the cross is actually St. Peter's cross and thus doesn't represent anything evil. Really, it doesn't.

Yeah I know about St. Andrew's cross, and the Eastern Orthedox cross, but I was under the original assumption like Dark here, that the inverted cross represented satan and all that evil stuff.

Usually when a symbol is inverted it represents the opposite of the symbol, hence why people think that the inverted cross represents the antichrist, if, however, there is already something symbolized by the inversion then that supersedes any inverted meaning.

Ah, but the most important thing is to ask if the priest wants to talk to someone who is evil, right? Or preist, as you put it.

He shouldn't be forced to do so if he doesn't want to. We must be civilized about this.

By the by, does your father think you're undead?

your mother seems to be to involved with your life, do what you want.

you're probably not evil.

why does she care what you buy for your boyfriend? unless like if you killed something and gave it to him. (it does happen, this guy gave his girlfriend a dead bird, she liked it though so I guess it's ok)

What about the inverted pentagram? I always thought that the meaning behind that was that in the pagan pentagram, the top point represented the spirit and that satanists turned it upside down to represent the lack of care for their souls' well-being.

Go talk to a priest and be very nice and respectful. Dont be rude, opinionated, or act in any way abnormal. In other words, be plastic. Then when youre given the okay by the priest, your mum will relax.

And what is it with people and wearing bloody symbols that they know are going to get a reaction from? If your worried about it being offensive and dont believe in what it represents, then dont wear it!
