Townes van Zandt

I found this guy a while ago. Awesome country singer (live stuff's even better - I thought *some* of the studio stuff was a bit overproduced and occasionally bland, and I think most of the songs just sound better acoustic) and an interesting guy, if pretty tragic. Does anyone know/like his stuff?

I think he may be my favourite country singer, ever.

Ignore the 3rd one - slightly inferior version of the 4th.

TVZ is fucking TIGHT. Good call on the live shit - the reason some of the albums suck is that TVZ just used to write these beautiful songs, then let others ruin them with overproduction. He didn't really give a shit so long as he had a guitar and a drink. Guy never even wanted to be famous - he pretty much sang to keep himself in booze and drugs. Yet he could do THIS. Guy isn't far behind Dylan in the songwriting stakes IMO.

Indeed.

Isn't it sad the group is so small?

Eh, only for everyone else. Fine with me - I can't hear their desolate weeping over the sound of my awesome music collection anyway.

That is true.

Minimal fanbase means miniminal arguments/hatin' on.

It gets lonely sometimes, being awesome. But it still beats being in harmony with the tastes of others, and all the lamer for it. Just like Molly Ringwald said in The Breakfast Club.

Edit - sorta.
