Would you like to help me?

I am currently writing an exam paper in music paedagogy on the subject of music and identity in subcultures (my examples being goth, punk and metal), and Iīd like to interview some fellow goths for this project to have other sources than books only. I will ask questions concerning your view on goth and your own sense of identity, on feelings of group identity and/ or fellowship with other goths and things like that. If there is anything you do not want to answer, thatīs fine. I need people who self- identify as goths (and punks or metalheads, which Iīll ask about their respective subculture) of any age. Iīd appreciate it... I can do interviews via PM, MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger or Skype. If you want to share your experiences, feel free to post your details in this thread or send them to me in a PM.

I strongly dislike subcultures in general, and having said that, I cannot use this thread as an excuse to get all yer msn/skype details. Ha.

This might sound like I'm being a dick, but I've been wanting to say it for some time already. With this one, and pyre's and there was this other guy recently, and many others in the past, it amazes me that people want to do so many papers on the gothic subculture when there are much more interesting topics out there.

Yeah, you ever thought that maybe your idea of what is interesting may not necessarily be someone else's idea of interesting?

There are far more important topics that could be picked up, but interesting? That is debatable.

Wait, are you seriously trying to argue against my opinion because it's just an opinion?

I only responded because you prefaced your opinion with a "This might sound like I'm being a dick...".

And dude, Celion Dion is the shit!

Mir - hehe, well, if you want my msn, you couldīve just said so... xD

and,

Jillian - I thought that writing about subcultures would be far more interesting and easy than, say, debating the best way to teach bel canto vocal techniques to a newbie, and thatīs why I picked it. Anyway, itīs not really the subcultures, itīs the interaction of self with music that is the main focus. I couldīve picked any subculture, but goth, punk and metal are the most well- known and well- documented (in the academic sense) subcultures in existance today, and thus makes it all the more easier for me. And I get to talk with people instead of sitting in the library all day. Really, itīs worth it.

Miny, I PMed you although I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "interaction of the self with music". I don't play or write music but I do collect it and have a pretty big collection. Do I get nude pics for doing this? I keep waiting for a nude pic section on your website and haven't seen it yet.

Seriously tho, Jillian pointed out how many people come here to do studies. Maybe we all should start charging people for our opinions. Or maybe all these researchers should get together and share notes/interviews/results and sell them to the next interested party. Maybe some enterprising goth could set up a clearinghouse of data for future students.

Aw, yay! Amazing, thank you.

Cicero - Iīll add you.

SiouxsiePernova - great! If youīd share your preferred contact medium with me, Iīll get in touch as soon as possible.

MiR5 - *blush, giggle* No nude pics, dear, sorry, I *am* trying to be academic here. But you will be part of my list of people to thank, of course. The "interaction of ...." thing was mainly meant as a way of saying I want to research how music inspires and affects people in subcultures, and what the connection between music, style and identity might be. Itīs not as scary as it sounds.

I think it's just a statement of the obvious, that "interesting" is subjective.
