NSW, Aus: Family murders hit 10-year high

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...section=justin

I'm wondering whether the stress on small rural communities is correlated to this? I know that depression and suicidal tendencies in farmers has been spotlighted for some time due to our drought.

Between July 2007 and June 2008, 29 women and children died as a result of domestic violence. This included the murder-suicide of the Bell family (Father killed his wife and children, then himself).

What is scary is that our government, for all the good it does, has been pursuing broadband connectivity and putting smartboards in every school, but ignoring requests to look into issues like this.

Each case must first be evaluated individually to see what the preceding history was: was separation or divorce involved? Lost job? Financial difficulties? Affairs?

In other words we need to understand what the "stress" was then we can know if they may be lumped together under one cause or are not related but merely the mathematical coincidence seen as the result of a growing population (so many family murders per 100,000).

Exactly my thoughts. Though I doubt that if any study was done, any of our papers would pick it up, unless the results were controversial.
