How come to most people it's called concerts, but when alt kids go to them it's called gigs or shows?

Gig sounds cooler to say than concert. Not as cool as saying giggity, though.

I love the rainforest and everything and everyone that lives in it.

Except the fire ants.

And the leeches get a little annoying, too.

Me and my brother debated that long ago and we arrived at the following conclusion.

Concert is reserved for big name bands while show is reserved for small bands. The dividing line between big name and small bands was whether or not they did their own sound check. Since alt bands seldom break big (in comparison to mainstream rock) most alt kids are going to shows rather than concerts.

We'd joke about it at gigs. We'd see a fairly popular band at a fairly large gig and ask, "Is this a concert or a show." If the vocalist came out and instantly started to sing it was a concert. If the first thing out of his mouth was, "Check. Check. Check." it was a show.

Then there's the argument that kids call them shows and gigs to make it sound more underground--even if it's not justified. Some mallgoth kid will say something like, "Yeah, I was in the front row of the Manson show last night" in an attempt to make a 30,000 seat arena sound like an intimate club gig despite the fact that the front row was actually 50 yards from the performer.

Oddly, when I became a bootleg trader I learned that nearly all traders use show to refer to any band's performance regardless of size or popularity.

I love being praised by my instructor even when my strength is waning.
I really like it when I win the cases I am presented in logic/rhetoric class--scratch that--any class.
I really love fog; Also sitting by the window with the lights off when it rains.
I really love riding a horse alone. I really love it when I work with children.
I love it when the house lights go down, the curtains open, and the dance begins.

Sigh... really? Nobody knows this?

Ok, fine.

A concert is a musical performance.
A show is any form of performance, usually this is applied to alt bands because in alt band concerts there is a visual element, as well as slam dancing/moshing/stage diving, or some other participatory aspect.
A gig is a slang term for a job, particularly when it involves booking musicians.

There, great big fucking mystery solved.

Why was that question so upsetting to you? I'm honestly perplexed.

I fancy lengthy naps, curling up next to a warm fire, and slumbering in pleasant sun beams creeping in through a nearby window.

I love it when Ziggy eats my mum's clothes and I get them because she won't wear them after.
I love it when Jerry sits on the table and eats my dinner with me.
I love knowing that I'm in a bit of a pickle, and I have to have a horrible conversation tomorrow, yet I still know that regardless of what happens, I'm gonna get drunk with friends and get laid from it.
I love getting paid for not working hard.
I love Frosty Jack's!

I love going out with my friends without any of us knowing where we're actually going and ending up in some strange, unidentified part of town.
