In terms of political bands, I feel that Midnight Oil were far better than Green Day! Bands like Public Image Limited and Midnight Oil were the horse, Green Day are the cart.

Linkin Park I used to like before migrating to the Goth/Industrial scene, but only for their screaming really, not for the rap. I don't care for their newer stuff, Meteora was tehir best album by far.
GreenDay isn't real punk, alternative if anything in my opinion. I only like probably two songs by them. And even those I don't listen to often if ever.
Breaking Benjamin is pretty epic. Not my favorite band (probably not even in my top 10 for metal) but their song 'Blow Me Away' was pretty awsum.
MCR has some good songs and I don't mind listening to it once in a blue moon.
Personally I don't like your taste in music. I like real metal and Industrial EBM/Aggrotech.
Bands like- Skinny Puppy, Suicide Commando, Behemoth, Lamb of God, Dawn of Ashes, SlipKnot, DeathStars, Grendel, Avenged SevenFold, etc.

I couldn't care less what genre they are, but I've always thought of them as pop rock.
Oh, and I Deathstars are one of my favourite bands too.
