Ville Valo BABY

Let the drooling commence...

And before you ask me WHY I like HIM ( esp since Goth's seem to hate this band for some ungodly reason) It is not the Ville is the best singer in the word--some of the best lyricists were not good singers--it is the message--he isn't talking about hating shit all the time or depression, or how his father fucked him up or his girl is a bitch...

There are yes, dark elements, but he is also actually TALKING about something else...

And people are responding form all walks of life--

At his concerts you don't just see kids trying to be all Gothic and cool -- you see young and old and black and white-- ravers, rockers and GOTH because the message is about spirituality and acceptance. As a fellow musician I find his message brave because it was bound to draw ridicule and he did it anyway. I like his dark but LIVELY spirit, which is why I find Ville so attractive...

Hey -- at least my answer isn't as verbose and stupid as Miss Teen South Carolina *rolls eyes*

*puts up dukes for a fight...*

You see all kinds of people attending their concerts because their music is so accessible and easy to digest. He's a good singer, I'll give him that. He definitely needs someone else to write the lyrics though. They're so damned cheesy, not to mention all follow the same formula.

well.. I dunno-- I like the lyrics but would agree there has to be a different mood in some. Also--he has progressed as time went on -his earlier lyrics were very very bad...

I love Ville! He's a very good singer. His lyrics are getting better. Do remember that English isn't his first language! Compare his early lyrics to Shakira's early english recordings; it gets pretty funny. It also doesn't hurt that he is gorgeous!

Fun sucker . . .

Lol. But you're right. He's also so addicted to smoking that he has to smoke while performing. Johnny Depp too.

Did you hear when Ville said "I have to smoke (big number) of cigarettes every day to get this spooky voice"? Hahaha, I used to want to take up smoking for that reason too. Ville, you're encouraging kids to smoke! XD

Rae....I may have to replace this keyboard as it is currently swimming with an ungodly amount of dribble.

He has forgotten the words mid song due to drunkenness, we had to sing the words back at him to remind him He has apparantly given up drinking now though, and he looks a lot better for it too. That beard has dissappeared thank the gods.

It is true you see all sorts at the shows. There are a lot of kids in CKY hats ect, but I have seen many older people and quite a few fellow goths too The shows are always fun, even if Ville's performance isn't always up to scratch.

He looks good (on the well photoshoped photoes and with all the make up at least), has a kick ass style (on said photos), has a great voice 8for all i know about music, which isn't much)...

But, um, there is a message in his songs? Oh I know...........wait, no I don't. Do you mean the whole OH MY BABY I AM SO DYING IN THIS BLISSFULL LOVE AND IT IS A GRAVEYARD AND ....wait, I forgot, what else was there? Oh right, I think I also remember something about love and death and graveyard.
His banal pseudo-paradox expressions such as dark-light and what not are oriented on commercial and his lyrics seem to have been put together in some three minutes following a set pattern like in a cook book. You take a HIM song, run it through a synoyme substitution and there you have another HIM song.
He's not making music, he is making money.

Some older things are good though. when he sang with the 69 eyes or the song "it's all tears"...

But message? In HIM? Please....

A man that says something?

Says something?? Rae, have you ever had the exquisite pleasure of hearing Rogue from Cruxshadows or reading his lyrics? Every word, every statement, will touch you on some level.

Gore-ger-us man, but not the best singer in my humble opinion. I must say I second Drac's statment. While I am a smoker as well, his influence on smoking (making it releavant and encouragment toward talent) is simply laughable.

In fact, almost rather pitiful. Ville is a good singer, but his influences are hardly believable toward his style of music in HIM. For instance, they said Ozzy Osbourne and his band are HIM's biggest influences. *Sigh* And "Love Metill" (I won't even get into the silliness of the term generally and it's mispelled on purpose) sounds nothing like any of the mans' work.

And isn't Metal supposed to be "Heavy"? The songs turn out to be nothing but lovey-dovey "Satanic" novelty music. It's like Immortal, if the band is a joke (which I originally thought they were) then they're brillant. But it's all for markets.

And honeythorn is completely correct; tastes are an utterly different thing. Someone can be involved in our scene and be very immersed toward the music; but there's a problem when someone calls HIM gothic rock. And making wrist-slitting and self-mutilation seem "cool" and "romantic"-a purpose bad influence toward anyone trying to understand our culture. I idealistically like the imagery; but the lyrics are uninspired and lack total elaboracy.

Is among one the biggest failures in music to date. I listened to a good number of their music, from 666 Prologue to Dark Light; whether it be samples or myspace-relying abilities. Only discovering it's only getting poppier as the years and records pass and sell. I still fail to see how the lyrics are 'deep'. Enjoyable, maybe, but not to be taken as a serious band.

Reminder: It's only my opinion. And, if someone is looking for goth rock with actual gnostic influences, then pop Rozz era-Christian Death in the playlist or player, kids. Because with HIM you'll find, unless you really feel for this band, as Drac says, uninspired-novelty horror music.

This hath been a Blackthorne(TM) attempt at being diplomatic.

Wait, which songs of Shakira's are you referencing...? Nearly every song I've heard of hers is brilliant.

I love Ville, and HIM is funny to listen to. I like it when I'm writing papers at 3 in the morning because it is good background noise. But other than that, it's good white noise or pop-ish music when I just want to relax.

Well--Okay..okay... live--I am like DUDE PUT THE FUCKING CIG AND BEER DOWN and sing goddamn your hide--step AWAY from the nicotine--

he is gonna kill his throat, I know it, dumb wanker

What he is doing is messing his vocal cords up, which is why the gravely vox thing even happens...

And his earlier stuff sucked...I don't like it all that much--much prefer the newer stuff

As for influences--you would be surprised at mine--my stuff is melodic but there are some heavy guys in the mix--like Metallica....

In my humble o' metal is a feel and not a sound per se

Kontan, I'd love to hear of this music of which you speak..

Vyvian--I always love your contributions, even if I don't agree-- always brilliant and well thought out!

But I DON'T agree with yah though....*shrugs*

But I do think there is a message in the madness--if one gets it they do--if they don't, they don't..

Opheila How--how..how...how can you not love... I mean....

*thrust a picture at you*

COME ON!

It's Ville dude-- and he's FROM THE NETHERLANDS....

*starts crying*

Life is sooo cruel....

Rae, right now, the best song by Cruxshadows that I can reccomend is "Eye of The Storm". Give it a good honest listen. Sure, enjoy the neat dancy EBMish beats and the cool violin, but LISTEN to the words. This dude speaks of love in ways that ALMOST fills you with both shame and hope.

I love that song....it's currently one of my favourite songs from Cruxshadows right now. Listen to it, maybe about 5 times a day, if not even more. XD That, and " Birthday " But my favourite will always remain " Foreverlast ". Thanks to Cruxshadows, I easily memorized " Jabberwocky " and gained much attention while recieting during work. =p
