is there such thing as perfect eyelids

I like practicing eyeshadow looks for fun, but i realized the eyeshadow looks different on my eyelids than on the ppl from the tutorials, even if i do the same thing. Are there different types of eyeshadow for different types of eyelids or am i just fucked. ex:when i do a smokey eye i think its barely noticeable, also should my eyebrows be higher so there is more space for eyeshadow, anyone knows?
notice my eyeliner takes half of the space

Well... you have to consider your skin tone of course.

Well, since I can't see the picture I'll have to guess : You could use eyeshadow-basis, or whatever it's called. You just put it on your eyelids before putting eyeshadow and it holds in better.
If your skin tone is much darker than the skin tone of the girls in the tutorials you see, just look for tutorials made for darker skin tones. No matter how good something look on one person it might just don't suit you and look stupid only beacuse of skin tone, same with clothes and jewelry.

You could also try using white\ very bright \ shiny eyeshadow as basis.
Check in some sites for make-up suiting your face, skin tone and eyes. It's probably the first thing about make-up. And if your eyes are too big anyway, just don't put too much eyeshadow and put the black pencil on the inner part of the eyelid, befire the lashes. It will make them look a little smaller.

The books I read on stage makeup all had bits about how to achieve the same looks with different eye shapes. If you feel like looking for stuff on that subject next time you're at the library, it shouldn't be too hard to adapt things. Here are some sites that you might find useful.

Don't forget to play with it, experiment as much and as often as you can... do things, even if they're counter intuitive. You don't have to go out like that... there's always makeup remover...
