Fuck the Soo!

I am beginning to hate Sault Ste Marie Canada. Mainly because of how goddamn cold it is, and because the Gothic subculture doesn’t seem to be active here.

Like I say and have heard other people say:
“The Soo is years behind the rest of the world”. I can’t find any groups anywhere. AND every time I start a thread here asking people where Goths are in the Soo it runs cold and eventually dies.

What gives?

I've no idea where Goths are in Sault Ste Marie. I've no idea where most goths are in my own town (though I've finally met one), but that's mainly cuz I hide in the studio most of the time.

Get the hell out of town?
Actually, if I were you, I'd hit up punk shows and dive bars.

Trust me, it can and often IS better than goth clubs where everyone dances all ethereal like to a bunch of angry techno music.

There be no scene here... I am alone, one goth, against hot topic drones.

I would leave, and go to some other town, if you can't leave, bide your time.

I have no friends in this town that I would classify as "gothic". But, then again, I wouldn't classify myself as truly gothic, no matter how much I like all the various aspects. Most of my friends are of the psychobilly punk breed, which is just as well. Around here, there are so few of any of us involved with any subcultures, we all just kind of meld. And all of us meet up at the tattoo shop. Seems to be the local hangout of everyone alt.

Hmm I've been in places where there is no scene. I've had to just hit up some hick-ass bars where toothless trailer trash hang out and make the best of it.

That is the kind of bar we wind up going to. It is quite funny on a night with a country band, when 3/4s of us have dyed hair, full sleeves, and big holes in our ears, dressing very peculiar, in their eyes. And, it is always fun to put some totally random music on the jukebox. Bauhaus or SoM always gets them going. Or some really "old school" punk. And I put old school in parenthesis, because if that type of punk is old school, then I am very old.

Sorry! Can't help. But I've lived in a place EXACTLY like that and the only solution is to MOVE. It may sound drastic, but it will help your sanity! Honest!

I don't know a lot of goths in my place as well, and never seen any actually, but i don't see what's wrong with hanging out with any other normal people or , hell, metal heads ? they are everywhere...

Goth friends can be pretty annoying by the way.

Yeh just find other people. I've enjoyed a punk/metal club more than the goth one by my uni, it just seems more fun. Might be because it has more people my age there. And the majority of the people at the goth place don't interact with people much, except for the ones they arrived with.

I don't have any friends who are into most of the music I listen to, I know a few rivets and lots of metal heads, thats as close as it gets. Not complaining though, they're all cool people.

It seems a little socially retarded to only be able to function in a location where there's Goths.

I've never met a Goth in my entire life, I don't try and jump on the back of trucks and hitch a ride to goffic freedom.

Thats not what he said. I'm guessing he was looking for a place to hang out with people where he'd like the music or something like that. I travel now and then to go into London for the music.

Yah that's what I meant. I'm looking for a place to hang out with like minded people. This town is filled with beer drinking hockey watching redrecks! I want to mingle with GOTHS!

Rivet-head. Listens to grinding, pulsating industrial, wears big stompy boots, and dances like they're putting out a fire with the aforementioned big, stompy boots.

I think, at least.

OM, Sent you to a web site recently called "Support Your Realm." My apologies. Found out they only list goth clubs on this side of Michigan. However, Canadian equivalent is Webring dot com. Good luck.

Hehe yup. I had a friend who described his dancing as "I imagine that theres the faces of people I hate on the floor, and then I stamp in time to the music on them".

They also like camo. And erm well I only know my rivet ish friends act so I don't know whether it counts as truely rivet but they seem to like vintage gas masks, goggles, german things, and cheesey sci-fi movies that feature any of the above. Some industrial music is pretty cool.

Can simplify it in just looking as a person who lives in post apocalypse.

The matrix movie is one of the examples for cool clothing.

By the way, Operton_Man, if you ever want to cross the boarder, get a passport, and drive many hours down to Detroit, I'd be more than happy to show you a few clubs. Detroit has a huge gothic/industrial community.

I went to the Station Mall today to brouse around. I desided to buy a CD by Bauhaus or Siouxsie and the Banshees. I asked and found out that they didn't have a music store anywhere in the entire mall! I went to Zellers and they had a small collection of crap. I asked the lady behind the counter and she told me she didn't have anything by either bands! What kind of backward out-of-date hicktown is this!?
