Some covers are cool especially when they take a real old song and update it to a more modern feel. Of course the original song has to be good to begin with. I particularly like a cover of my all time favorite Death in June song "Fall apart" wich was done to a four on the floor dance beat if anyone knows who does it I would like to know so I can get it.

I like to hear cover songs when they're done in a different style. Snake River Conspiracy does a very interesting version of The Cure's Love Song, I love Siouxsie and the Banshee's version of "Dear Prudence", and Rasputina has an album of great cover songs.

Covers are okay, in my opinion, if they make it their own. For instance, Metallica put out their album of covers,"Garage Inc." In the album, they made all the songs their own, therefore being just covers.

On the other hand, if a band just copies it exactly, the cover was pointless, and should have been ended.

I tend to hate most covers (especially of oldies/classic rock/80's songs seeing as I grew up listening to the originals - thank my parents.) but there is one I actually like and appreciate for it's own unique twist and added beat. Lauren Hill and The Fugee's version of "Killing Me Softly."

I do like Roberta Flack's original....but it's much more low key and chill. I tend to gravitate to the cover.

Other than this there are really none that I personally enjoy.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Deathline International. They have done a few industrial covers like Tainted Love and Rawhide which both kicked much arse.

They are playing at Convergence 13.

Cities in Dust -(Sioxsie and The Banshees) Man and Machines

There is just something so deadly and terrifying in their version. It doesn't remind me of lava and sex as it reminds me more of a slow burning nuclear meltdown and mutant zombie sex...

Yeah... I know, I'm odd.

Yer....you're correct. First time I heard the song in The Lost Boys I thought it was Trent Reznor - no one could tell me otherwise...but...then I was told otherwise lmao

The name of the original singer was Gerard McMann

Who recently re-recorded it in a swampy bluesy style.

When a band does a cover, pretty much the same way the original band did it, I always wonder... What's the point? I like a band that takes a song and makes it their own. Some of my favorite covers are:

"I Can See For Miles" THEATRE OF ICE
"Tainted Love" SOFT CELL
"Riboflavin Flavored Non-Carbonated Poly-Unsaturated Blood" 45 GRAVE

I agree with Miron on the 45 Grave and TOI covers there.

Also, Cinnamon Girl - Type 0

Imagine - A Perfect Circle

Solitary Man - Johnny Cash

I've been dancing around to Santa Esmeralda's cover of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood for days now.

I Heard It On The Grapevine- The Slits cover is awesome too.

I agree! For that reason, I absolutely adore Siouxsie's covers. Also, Cocteau Twins' version of Strange Fruit is just majestic.
