Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

What happened to BAD-ASS Goth music?

Listen to Bauhaus--Endless Summer of The Damned.

Then, listen to .45 Grave--Party Time, Wax, Evil---Hell, just listen to .45 Grave.

Top those off with some The Birhtday Party--Release The Bats,

and then tell me: WHERE'S ALL THE MUSIC LIKE THIS?!?!? Sometimes, you just need that element of bad-assness in your Goth music. Your suggestions?

Are you asking for more bands from that genre or for newer bands with that sound?

I wonder the same thing all the time. Now all the bands are either phony or look like Renassiance fair employee rejects. Kinda sad.

I think Nick Cave is the MOST badass of all gawf rockers. And well-spoken.

Miazma - Rise

Now before you whine: Miazma does have a very goth sounding song:

I forgot to mention The Cure--100 Years, and Joy Division--Shadowplay.

@Grausamkeit, a little of both; thank you.

Dead Kennedy's--Holiday in Cambodia has a little bit of what I'm looking for...

@Humane, very nice. I like them. But, that element of truly the bad-ass... it takes quite a person to capture it. Or quite a group, for that matter.

I think 'bad ass' is a matter of taste, but check out Elegy of Madeline at their youtube page.

Nice. I don't know if it's the distortion they're using or what, but they seem to have a fairly origninal bent...

I can't help but think I need to make mention of Sex Gang Children, though.

These guys were one of the most unique bands I know of, and understandably influenced Grunge and other genres. I heard somewhere that Kurt Cobain may have listened to them.

This is pretty killer, too--and from an obscure and absolutely terrible movie. Very goth.

Bauhaus have stuff with way badder asses than endless summer of the damned. I don't really consider anything made after about '85 to be gothic rock at all (with the exception of the stuff the sister made after then). Except maybe Interpol. (!)
