Yeah, that match between Holland and Brazil is really something ... two titanic juggernauts coming to joust on the field of combat.

I just hope the outcome is decided by both teams playing their best and the better performer winning ... instead of someone cruising to victory after gaining an unfair advantage due to a bad referee call. Because I'll be surprised if the margin of victory on this one is more than one goal.

I've DVR'd it ... knew I wasn't going to get to watch it live this morning. So now I know how it ends; and that's okay. I'll still review it later today, but HURRAY for the DUTCH!

Looking forward to cheering For Uruguay in a little over an hour.

Fair point.

I did say that. And I was woefully ignorant. But you'll note in recent comments I came around ... I did say I was going to cheer for Netherlands against Brazil. So, I'm learning.

The Netherland win put a big smile on my face. Especially because I didn't think they'd win it, I was just hoping they would.

Well, if the emotion of the crowd has any impact, they certainly are very vocally supporting every attack Ghana makes and every advantage Ghana takes. And for the recent spell, Ghana looks like the better team. They've certainly had some very close shots on goal.

And right after I post that, Ghana scores a goal on an excellent long strike just before halftime!

Well, it would not be the worst thing to have an African team make it to the semi-finals.

Wow! Tied after the regulation and extra time periods ... what an incredible drama it was watching the penalty kicks to decide the match!

Sorry Africa, Ghana is going home. Well done, Uruguay.

So far I'm 2 for 2 in quarterfinal picks. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

I hope Argentina and Spain make it through.

The Germany vs. Argentina game is going to be awesome. I hope that someone scores an early goal.

Yeah, someone did ... but it was Germany.

I expected Germany would win this, but ... come on Argentina!

BTW, after watching so many Oscar-worthy performances from athletes on some of these teams over-dramatizing the flop when they're tripped up on the field, I'm impressed with the Germans approach to being tripped.

They just seem to get up as quick as possible (at least the times I've noticed) and look to attack the ball again. It strikes me that's the mark of a team that is confident of winning their matches through skill and not needing to bother with trying to curry a favorable break from the referee.

I like that.

Meanwhile, there goes another Argentinian writhing in agony over a slight nick on the shin from a German player that did everything he could to get out of the way and barely grazed him with a toe tip. Damn whiners!

Yeah, Germany just took control and never looked back. They are very strong.

Interesting. I expect that Spain will take care of business later today setting up one interesting semi-final match out of the two.

I expect Netherlands to easily beat Uruguay, but Spain versus Germany ... hmmm, that should be very thrilling!

Based on Spain's match today, Germany will **** Spain.

I really hope I am wrong.

Nope ... after watching Germany's last match I feel confident in predicting they will march over Spain. ha ha ha ... ah.

So how does a Netherlands/Germany final sound? I think I like it!

Landon Donovan returned to the L.A. Galaxy so I watched their game against Seattle yesterday. It was almost as thrilling as the World Cup games have been, so I think I'm going to be a MLS fan.

Whew! I saw your post and thought maybe the game was starting and I'd got the schedule wrong, so I was scrambling through the cable guide looking for the game.

I'm looking forward to it to start in a little over four hours, although after seeing both Netherlands' and Uruguay's recent performances ... I think the Dutch will easily roll over an overwhelmed opponent. But there's a reason they play the games, so we'll see.
